    Description

    Duxford, UK - Home to the Imperial War Museum and the Duxford Air Festival

    I have recrafted this airport from scratch and tried to match the real-world features as closely as possible. I have created custom models for some of the larger hangars, and used (lots) of base objects to complete the airfield.

    Info:

    Duxford Aerodrome     (ICAO: EGSU) is located 8 nautical miles (15 km; 9.2 mi) south of Cambridge, within the Parish of Duxford, Cambridgeshire, England and nearly 1-mile (1.6 km) west of the village.

    The airfield is owned by the Imperial War Museum (IWM) and is the site of the Imperial War Museum Duxford and the American Air Museum.

    Duxford Aerodrome has a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Ordinary Licence (Number P678) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Cambridgeshire County Council). The aerodrome is not licensed for night use.

    • Completely overhauled airport from scratch
    • Runways with custom markings

    • West and East parking (you can choose via ATC)
    • Air Space hangar - custom model
    • American War Museum - custom model
    • Control Tower - custom model
    • Land Warfare Hall - custom model
    • 3 main hangars - custom model
    • Over 200 other hand placed scenery objects
    • Terraformed M11 and grass bank
    • Added ground ATC

    Install:

    Extract the "gobby-duxford" folder to your /Community/ folder.

    Known 'limitations':

    • I have not included any of the external museum aircraft, weapons and tanks (sorry I don't have time to model them all!) I have replaced the British airliners collection with some a320s to give a similar look from the air.
    • I replaced the flight simulator truck with a stock blue (american) truck as it was the closest scenery available.
    • The 3 'green' hangars use the same model, even though there are subtle differences in real-life.
    • I have not added any night lighting as the real aerodrome is not used at night.
    • Lots of buildings towards the front are not accurate to real-life as they are stock objects.

    Hey thanks Gobby, I had your Duxford as soon as it came out and was well pleased to see something better than the ugly default, but as an avid Duxford fan I had to recreate something with more details and the lockdowns gave me the time to do it.

    I prefer yours actually. The clean, uncluttered look works better for me. If you do ever update this though, could you take a look at the grass runway? I have a tree in the middle of it.... And thank you, btw.

    thanks a lot for this great scenery, I know very well Duxford and I'm imrpessive by the I am impressed by the precision of the main and iconic hangars.
    there is only one thing missing, the mound of the side of the Land Warfare Hall well knowned by the spoters during the shows
    I'm getting also stuttering when flying close to Duxford now. Do you have an idea to solve this issue ?

    Having lived near Duxford for many years it is really nice to see this excellent recreation of this iconic airfield (and now a museum). I agree with a previous comment that the A320s' lovely planes that they are) must go. I think there is an issue with the ground handling and runway. I have become adept at taking off and landing the new Spitfire which takes a lot of practice but here I find it almost impossible to control both take off and landing and when taxiing, the plane is slightly tilted like it has a puncture. I'm sure at this location this is an MSFS problem. Thanks for this airport though!

    Outstanding scenery, I love to fly from it. Since World Update 3, though, I notice the ground is very sticky on taxi, it takes a lot of throttle to get going. That plus the bopping up and down static aircraft makes me think there is a conflict in the elevation data, so either the stock scenery or this addon makes the plane think it is under ground? Hope this can be fixed in an update, but I still love it even with the glitch.

    Yep Asobo still haven't fixed the simobjects hopping up and down bug.
    I've not encountered the 'sticky taxi' issue. The taxiways are just the
    default asphalt and grass so shouldn't be causing any issues.

    Incidentally.... maybe it's just something on my system, but I'm getting terrible stuttering when flying close to Duxford now, since World Update 3.

    You Sir are a legend, not quite a flying legend but near enough! I actually fly out of DUX and have been looking for a better version. so happy. just need some old school warbirds to buzz around in and happy place! left hand circuits on 24R here I come, couldn't sort out MJ's place over at EGMJ grass needs cutting again and those pesky trees popping up ;)

    This scenery looks fantastic and I have installed the latest version, but unfortunately I am getting poor frame rates! I have tried the Biggin Hill scenery but that is fine.

    Excellent contribution of the long-awaited Duxford scenary! ... in Flightsim.to you have the LFFQ scenary made by Toto33120, with a collection of planes, both from WWI and WWII. Inside the file is his Readme which gives directions to get them .... I hope you can contact him and for the next upgrade we can see them in your excellent setting.

    Love this. Only problem is that the static aircraft seem to bop up & down on uneven terrain or something. Only seems to happen when taxiing.
