A330-300 RR Enhancement Mod for MSFS 2024 - Image 1

    Description

A330-300 RR Enhancement Mod for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

This add-on improves the default Airbus A330-300 with Rolls-Royce engines in MSFS 2024, focusing on the areas that most affect the flying experience - aircraft feel, behavior during key phases of flight, and the overall perception of the aircraft.

The goal of this mod was not to turn the A330 into a completely different aircraft, but to refine the default version so that it feels smoother, more natural and more enjoyable to fly.

    Main improvements

    • calmer and more natural liftoff behavior
    • smoother and less nervous flare during landing
    • improved overall feel during takeoff and landing
    • more natural taxi and rollout behavior
    • better sense of mass and inertia expected from a large widebody Airbus
    • smoother sidestick/joystick movement in the cockpit
    • more natural-looking wing flex
    • softer and less aggressive exterior lights at night as seen from the cockpit
    • a more polished and enjoyable overall experience with the default A330

How it differs from the default version

Compared to the stock aircraft, this mod provides:

    • calmer and more predictable rotation behavior
    • a less nervous flare and more natural landing hold-off
    • improved feel during takeoff, approach and landing
    • more refined taxi handling and post-touchdown behavior
    • smoother control animations in the cockpit
    • subtler night lighting without an overly harsh effect from the cockpit view
    • an overall more polished and pleasant aircraft character

A330-300 RR Enhancement Mod for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

    • poprawiony ogólny feeling samolotu podczas startu i lądowania

I love the plane but I have a problem with reverser on a throttle I have that has 2 buttons to click like detent and detected by sim in all airplanes except this one donno why..Basically I mapped the 2 buttons I click to "decrease throttle"

    Absolutely lovely.

The aircraft flies so so much better and a lot more realistically.

It would be so great if you could also do this mod for the other ini a330 variants, and their a340 and a350.

None of them handle as well as this with the mod.

I am using the latest 5.1 beta, and the lights including landing lights are super bright and the strobes are super bright as well. Is this meant only for stable Su5 release?

Hey mate, thank you very much for this mod!
There are a couple things I would love to see improved further:

Taxi thrust: Even at MTOW an A330 will accelerate all the way up to 30kt with IDLE thrust. At low weights it would go far beyond that. You really don't feel the weight of the plane during taxi because of the high idle thrust from the engines. To give you an idea: If you're at EDDF C16, pushback facing runway 18, and you simply let it accelerate it would reach ~10-12kt by the time you get to the intersection with taxiway N3. At light weights I've seen as high as 15 knots by that time.
The only exceptions are tight turns where you run out of speed really quickly. A tight 90° turn with less than 6-7 knots during the entry and IDLE thrust and you're guranteed to stop in the turn.

Rotation and liftoff: You should need ~3/4 backstick (cross on PFD between 7.5 and 10°) to initiate the rotation.
It should lift off at ~8° pitch.
The initial pitch with a flex takeoff (regardless of the weight) should be 15° and if you followed the correct rotation rate of 3°/sec you should end up roughtly at V2+10kt once you reach 15° pitch. With an engine failure 12° at most weights, 11° with an engine failure.

Inertia effect in flight: I noticed that the A330 now has a tendency to keep turning a little bit after I commanded wings level. It shouldn't really do that, the real one can be controlled more precisely than the simulated one can with the mod. In case you tried flying the A330 in the full flight sim: The FFS is a lot less stable than the real deal is.

Approach: With Flaps 1 and at the S speed you should need a pitch of about 8.5° to maintain level flight.
On final approach with Flaps 3 you should need ~4°, with Flaps Full ~3° pitch.
The plane should have a little more intertia in the flare phase. At 50ft the elevator gives a slight nose down input. At 30-40ft (closer to 40) you need to start the flare, otherwise you won't be able to break the rate of descent unless you keep the thrust on. In the simulated one I get parallel to the ground at ~15ft when I start the flare at 40.
When lowering the nose after landing (pitch on touchdown should be somewhere between 6-7°) you really notice how high you're sitting in the cockpit on landing. It seems a loooooooooong way down until the nosewheel finally touches down!

Not sure if you can model this, but the A330 has a very distinct touchdown. You really got to land it three times:
First the aft boogey, then the front boogey (the front boogey is about 1m in the air when the aft boogey touches down), then the nose wheel. If you pull the reversers immediately after the aft boogey lands, the spoilers will extend, causing the front boogey to fall down, feeling like a hard landing for your pax.

You should touch down with at least 1/2 sidestick deflection aft to maintain your pitch on final. After touchdown you really need to release the stick only very gently to fly the nose wheel down. If you simply let go of the stick your nose will come crashing down and the softest possible main wheel landing will be ruined and everyone sitting in front of the wing will complain how bad of a pilot you are ;-)

Regarding the lights, could you check if the following are possible:
The dome light on BRT is too bright. It should be somewhere around half between the current BRT and the current DIM setting. It should also illuminate the entire flight deck evenly. I really don't know where this idea from most MSFS developers these days (looking at you, Asobo and everyone else!) comes from that overheads would look different than mainpanels, pedestals and everything - because they really shouldn't.

The taxi and turnoff lights are still very bright. You could turn them down quite the bit further.
The landing light is pretty accurate already - the taxi and turnoff lights should be a little dimmer than the landing light. IRL - especially at remote airports with no good apron lighting - we often taxi with the landing light on because you can otherwise not see much in front of you, especially on a dark surface.

The shape of the main panel flood lights is also incorrect. It's quite hard for cameras to capture what lights look like, but I think it's captured pretty well during the landing in this video: https://youtu.be/73FgBWsPXv0?t=661

Not sure if you can adjust this, too, but I'll drop it here anyway: The default point of view is located too far to the right. When you use the MSFS camera settings and set the HORIZONAL POSITION to 48 (default 50) and the HEIGHT to 55 you get a much more realistic point of view. Any chance you can do this?

Thank you very much for your efforts with this mod! Really looking forward to the progress you can make!

Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this. This kind of detailed feedback is honestly super valuable, because these are exactly the small real world details that help a lot when trying to make the mod feel more believable and better tuned.

I’m definitely going to take a closer look at everything you mentioned and see what I can improve. I can’t promise I’ll be able to replicate or adjust every single thing, but I’ll absolutely do my best to work through it and see what’s possible.

Thanks again for such a thoughtful and detailed message. It really helps a lot.

"With an engine failure 12° at most weights, 11° with an engine failure." What exactly did you mean by this, I feel like a word is missing, would it be 11 degrees in the OEI case at high gross weight?
