Tucked along the western shore of Cavanaugh Bay on Idaho's Priest Lake, Tanglefoot Seaplane Base (D28) is one of those real-world gems that reward the curious simmer willing to explore beyond the major hubs. Priest Lake itself is a striking body of water — 19 miles long, 3 miles wide, and covering some 26,000 acres — set against the backdrop of the Selkirk Mountain Range and its 7,600-foot peaks. The area is a well-known tourist destination in northern Idaho, drawing visitors for boating, fishing, and hiking in summer, and snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in winter. Situated less than a kilometer from Cavanaugh Bay Airport (66S), the seaplane base is perhaps best known in aviation circles as the annual host of the Tanglefoot Splash-In, an event organised by the Washington Seaplane Pilots Association that brings together floatplanes, seaplanes, and amphibious aircraft for a weekend of camping, cookouts, and camaraderie.

Developer MulberryWing has now released a dedicated Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 version of their well-regarded D28 scenery, previously available for MSFS 2020. The update stays faithful to the original while taking advantage of new MSFS 2024 assets and incorporating a number of refinements to terrain and textures, making it the natural choice for those who have made the move to the newer simulator.

The scenery introduces the floatplane docks, beach, seaplane ramp, and a large hangar that give the base its distinctive character. Supporting detail includes a windsock, flag, camping area, parked vehicles, and signage that helps place you firmly in the atmosphere of a busy seaplane gathering spot. Three parking spaces have been thoughtfully positioned to reflect real-world operations: one at the floatplane dock, one on shore for an amphibious aircraft, and one at a mooring buoy out in the bay for a seaplane. A static Grumman Goose occupies a second buoy, adding further life to the water. Modest night lighting is included, and the CTAF frequency of 122.9 has been properly assigned. You will also need to download the separate Seaplane Asset Library by 30West and place it in your MSFS 2024 community folder.
