Developed by Commercial Simulation Systems (CSS), the 737-500 was the first release in their Boeing 737 Classic family and serves as the compact short-haul member of the lineup, seating fewer passengers than its stretched siblings while sharing the same Classic-era cockpit philosophy. In the real world, the 737-500 was a popular choice among European, South American, and Asian regional carriers throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Community-created repaints cover a wide range of real-world operators — from well-known carriers such as Southwest Airlines and Aer Lingus to smaller regional and historical schemes — frequently delivered in high-resolution 4K textures.
