The Boeing 747-8i (Intercontinental) is a wide-body, long-haul commercial aircraft and the latest passenger variant of the iconic Boeing 747 family. Introduced in 2012, the 747-8i features advanced technology, a longer fuselage, and improved efficiency compared to its predecessors. With its distinctive hump-backed design, it remains a symbol of luxury and innovation in aviation, catering to high-capacity routes and premium travel experiences.
Performance and Features of the 747-8i are optimized for long-range operations and passenger comfort. Powered by four General Electric GEnx-2B67 engines, the aircraft has a maximum range of approximately 14,310 km (8,870 miles) and can accommodate up to 467 passengers in a typical three-class configuration. Its redesigned wings, enhanced aerodynamics, and fuel-efficient engines reduce operating costs while maintaining the aircraft's signature performance and reliability.
Applications and Legacy of the 747-8i have cemented its place in the history of aviation. While primarily used for commercial passenger service, its versatility also includes roles in VIP and governmental transport, such as the next-generation Air Force One. Despite the declining demand for large, four-engine aircraft, the 747-8i continues to serve as a testament to Boeing’s engineering excellence and the enduring appeal of the “Queen of the Skies.”
