Description
EDRY - Airport Speyer/Ludwigshafen
Including Technology Museum and SurroundingsNEW Update 1.15
- bug fixes (missing textures and objects)
- improved refinery and industrial area next to airport (old refinery was mainly autogen with a few custom buildings, new one is 90% custom because autogen buildings were changed with last World Update for DACH and looked awful
- improved FS2024 compatibility (Sim Object visibility code simplified to make it work in FS24, some missing FS2020 replaced). Please note that this is still NOT a native FS2024 scenery, but it works better now in the new sim
- moved some objects to new locations because the new aerial imagery introduced n the last World Update for DACH now mismatched previous object locations.
- added a few cars on the large parking lots surrounding the airport
. added water to the Bademaxx public swimming pool
NEW Update 1.1
- removed Speyer Cathedral from the scenery (was doubled since World Update 18 included the Cathedral as a POI)
- corrected some texture errors
- corrected some hangar placements (were sunken into the ground after WU 18)
- reinstalled sign at the MFG Hangar (had a flipped normal which made it invisible)
- removed tent next to the MFG Hangar (has been torn down in real life)
- NEW: simplified model of the SpeyAir Flight Restaurant next to the tower. Enjoy your meal!
NEW Update 1.05:
- reduced tree height near RWY 34 threshold to more realistic height according to feedback from real-life pilots flying out of EDRY
- added custom follow-me-car near the tower
- added new hangar "Halle 2" built in 2023 next to the FLight Academy Speyer (north-western part of the airport). Old hangar has been torn town, removed it from the scenery.
- added new, more detailed model of the MFG Speyer Hangar
- added some additional signs
Planned for next update: complete rework of the area around the tower, new custom models for tower and the new "Flight Restaurant Speyer" north of the tower. Probably some rework of the surroundings north of the airport. Next update hopefully Fall 2023.
Created by TGD Design - Fabs79, May 2022; based on the EDRY Scenery for FSX/P3D, created by the FlightPort Team (Thomas Roehl and Jörg Dannenberg).
Permission to use and convert the FlightPort objects and models was explicitly obtained from the original authors, and Thomas Roehl accompanied the MSFS conversion from beginning to end.

About the airport:
The "Flugplatz Speyer/Ludwigshafen" is one of the oldest airports in Germany. Opened in 1913 to service the aircraft manufacturing company "Pfalz-Flugzeugwerke",
it saw many changes over the years. From 1971 the airport had a sealed runway, which was first extended in 1986 and again in 2011. Today, the airport features a
1677 metre asphalt runway and is home to several flight schools and aeroclubs, as well as a business jet company. It serves all kind of GA, Ultralight and glider
operations, and is also th FBO for chemical industry company BASF´s own business jet, a Falcon 2000, which has its own hangar located at the northeastern end of
the airport. Unlike many other airports, it thrived throughout the Corona crisis, and several new hangars and service buildings were built in recent years.
About the scenery:
This scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator is based on the FSX Speyer scenery created by well-known developer team FlightPort, aka Thomas Roehl and Joerg Dannenberg, which not only
featured a highly detailed rendition of the airport, but also of Speyer Technology Museum and some POIs around the airport (Cathedral, bridges, industrial areas).
With Thomas´ and Joerg´s permission, I converted the original FSX scenery files to the MSFS format, but I also created a lot of new content to reflect the changes the airport has undergone since
2015 when the original FSX scenery was released.
Due to the nature of converting an FSX scenery, there are some limitations to keep in mind when using this scenery:
- most models are direct conversions of the FSX models and are kept relatively simple, so there´s no interior modeling, no fancy PBR textures - the FSX engine couldn´t deal with too many high poly models and didn´t have a PBR engine.
- some buildings saw some changes in real life which are not yet reflected in this scenery, especially the Tower which looks a little different now than its scenery counterpart.
With that said, there is still a lot of features and content for you to explore in this scenery (Features marked with an * are new additions not present in the FSX original)
Scenery Features:- Very accurate and up-to-date representation of EDRY - Airport Speyer/Ludwigshafen, Speyer Technology Museum and the surrounding area.
- * New 40 cm/pixel aerial image from around 2019 (newer than BING or Google aerial image) provided by Geoportal Rheinland Pfalz (official government imagery of the federal state)
- * completely reworked ground polys, aprons, taxiways to most accurately reflect the actual ground layout, based on aerial photos from April 2022.
- * custom ground textures: washed out old runway markings (from before the runway extension in 2011), washed out parking numbers in the eastern part of the airport and many more.
- correct painted lines and ground markings
- correct taxiway and information signs
- correct runway night lighting with displaced green threshold lines
- Custom Airport Buildings: Hangars, Tower, Airport Restaurant (Bistro Meridian)
- * NEW: Three Hangars on southeastern end of the airport (built from scratch in Blender, those new models also have PBR textures)
- * NEW: Hangar at the northeastern end of the airport next to the BASF hangar
- * NEW "Airside Individual Hangar" on the southwest side of the airport
- Custom Static Aircraft, some of them featuring real-life liveries of local flight schools and aeroclubs
- Custom 3d people, some static, some animated
- * Visibility of some objects dependent on Time of Day and Weather Conditions; e.g. 3D People models will not be shown before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. or in rainy / snowy conditions
- Custom night lighting and emissive textures
- Highly detailed Speyer Technology Museum with dozens of custom modeled aircraft, ships and signs
- Improved surroundings: Custom models added to Refinery and Industrial Area, added Speyer Cathedral ("Dom zu Speyer"), Memorial Church, St Joseph Church and A61 road bridge.

Would it be possible to add the Hospital of Speyer (with its Helipad) to that pack?
But seriously, maybe I could consider a very simple model of the hospital and the helipad, but I´d need some more reference images of the helipad and the entrance to the elevator and so on, so at the least the immediate surroundings which can be seen from the helicopter cockpit are more detailed.
