EGAH - Halley VI Research Station, Antarctica - Image 1

    Description

This add-on is designed to expand the default scenery provided by Microsoft / Asobo Studio for the Halley Research Station in Antarctica.

It adds a custom airfield to the default scenery (Halley Skiway), modelled after the real-world snow runway used by logistics aircraft, allowing virtual pilots to fly in and out of Halley Research Station with purpose and realism. The skiway layout, textures, and associated facilities have been created using a blend of available data, photographic references, and simulation-specific adaptations to ensure a smooth and believable user experience.

Beyond the runway and apron for the Halley Skiway, this add-on also expands the scenery to include the Halley Creek Relief Site as a landamrk (point of interest), a key resupply location situated northwest of the station at the edge of the Brunt Ice Shelf—where cargo ships offload essential supplies that are then transported inland to Halley.

The add-on makes use of the default MSFS2024 scenery objects and is therefore only compatible with MSFS2024.

Great scenery I really love flying into remote places and nothing beats Antarctica. Im currently building my first custom airport in fs2024, its an Antarcica airport, it will be a secret base wich I will gladly share with you once its finished.

Thanks a lot for the kind words and for reaching out! I think it’s awesome that you’re building an Antarctic field as well.

On the COMMS side I’m probably not the best person to ask - my focus has been on scenery, and for Antarctic skiways I usually skip ATC since real-world frequencies are rarely published and the default MSFS ATC logic doesn’t map very well to station operations.

If you do manage to figure it out, please let me know - that knowledge might come in handy if I ever decide to add full ATC logic to my add-ons.

Good luck with building your secret base - when it’s ready, I’d love to try it! 🙂

I figured it out and now have Atis and other frequencies on my airport. You have to create another package for the NAVDATA, after I did that it worked. Most of what I did was trial and error but in the end I got it working. Still the scenery aint finished though. If you ever need help on setting the comms I´ll gladly show you what I did.

Great one, thanks a lot! Antarctica sceneries always give that "top secret special operations" mystery-vibe.

One thing: maybe you can make the lighting around the station a bit more "pointy" to specific lightpoles, that would be awesome :)

Thanks for the kind words — much appreciated! Totally agree, Antarctica definitely has that secret-ops mystery feel 😄

About your lighting suggestion: as mentioned in the manual, the station is currently based on Microsoft/Asobo’s default scenery, so I can’t directly tweak some of the finer details just yet.

That said, I’m planning to rework the station at some point anyway. I think it’s actually oriented the wrong way right now — it should be East-West, not North-South — and I’ll definitely keep your lighting idea in mind. I’m not a fan of the default lighting either; it’s way too bright and generic for that environment.

That said, it might take a little while before I get to it. Right now I’m focused on building out more missing Antarctic stations — there’s still so much untouched territory in MSFS2024, and I think adding new locations brings more overall value to the community.

Thanks again for the feedback — keep it coming!

Well ... after you mentioned it, I took another look at the station lighting - and it really started to bug me. So, I went ahead and did a small update - didn't get a lot of sleep these past couple nights, but here it is: Version 1.1.

Let me know what you think of the new lighting. As I have now completely recreated the station in the scenery (still based on MSFS2024 default assets), it should now be a lot easier to make adjustments in the future.

In the process, I made a couple of other changes to the station as well, in general trying to adapt the scenery more to the real-world Halley VI station.

    Feedback is always appreciated.

    Glad you like it! :)

Let me know if you have any other ideas—might take a bit, as I'm currently focused on other sceneries.

Pre-alpha for Zucchelli Station should be out tonight! :)

    Version History

The primary goal of Update 1.1 is to restructure the scenery file for more efficient future development, while also improving the accuracy of the station’s layout to better reflect the real-world Halley VI. Along the way, several enhancements have been added — including a comms array, a refueling station, new lighting system and other operational details to enrich the overall experience. • Halley Station has now been completely rebuilt (still using default MSFS2024 assets), allowing for greater flexibility in future updates • Internal scenery structure has been refactored --> this should speed up future development • Updated station location & orientation: o New station position is 2150 m west of 75° 34’ 05’’ S, 25° 37’ 00’’ W. This is about 4 miles west from the previous location o Station is now oriented North-South instead of East-West • The runway has also been moved. - New position of the skiway: 2150 m west of 75° 33’ 15’’ S, 25° 41’ 00’’ W - Runway True Heading: 72° / 252° - Magnetic Variation: 4° (as measured in the simulator) • Reduced runway length to 1191 m, but increased width from 40 m to 50 m • Added cargo loading crew to DC-3 parked on apron • Added refuelling station to apron • Changed station lighting (upon user request) • Added snow accumulation on lee side of station • Caboose C1 has been installed – ready to host science experiments • Caboose C5 has been installed – ready to host science experiments • Comms Array has been added to Halley site • Added container line to Halley site • More accurate station surroundings • New point of Interest “March Creek”: Ice crevasse has developed at previous location of Halley VI • Updated the manual Check the manual for additional information and background story for update 1.1
