Brisbane Western Freeway Signs - Image 1

    Description

The default scenery on the Brisbane Western Freeway in Flight Simulator has 3 houses straddled across the northeastern section of the freeway (between the Waverley Road overpass and the Mt Coot-tha roundabout) in 3 seperate locations where there should be overhead signs. This is because satellite imagery doesn't give the game much to work with (it just looks like a slim rectangle going over the road), so it's chosen to place houses there.

The aim of this mod was always to have the sign scaffolds, not houses on the Western Freeway. I consider that original vision feature complete. The only thing I wasn't able to get working was collision. Maybe in the future.

Simply put the "westernfreewaysigns" folder in your community folder. Completely delete any previous version, I tend to change file names around a bit to more easily identify versions.

4.1 - Retextured all the scaffolds after learning a metric tonne about how to use the same textures for different polygons far more effectively in Blender while creating my Indooroopilly Bridges addon several months ago.

Also rebuilt using the latest SDK. Marked as Compatible with Sim Update 5.

** 02/04/21 - I now consider my 3 custom overhead sign scaffold models complete unless any patches break them or any future adjustments need to be made to account for incompatibility or updated elevation data which I assume would be included in an Australia World Update sometime down the line. That doesn't mean this is the last update though. In the future I'd like to expand beyond the small section of the freeway I've been concentrating on as there are some other smaller scaffolds and road signs I'd like to add, but since the original vision of replacing the 3 houses on the Freeway with custom models is complete and I have no further improvements in mind for them, for now I'll be moving to a different project and this addon will be relegated to a side project that will not be updated as frequently. It's taken just under 5 weeks to get to this point, I've enjoyed it. **

I've had a look at Byron Bay Lighthouse, it wouldn't be a side project, it would have to be main project. Once I consider the Western Freeway mod feature complete, I'll look at building a model for the lighthouse but it could be some time before I begin that.

Thank you very much! I have also bought the Orbx Landmark Brisbane pack, but I generally turn off all my mods when using the SDK.

does this work with orbx Brisbane

It should. Their mod doesn’t extend to the Western Freeway and mine doesn’t go beyond it. I believe the most western Orbx Brisbane model is Suncorp Stadium which is still a fair distance from the Western Freeway so it shouldn’t interfere at all.

Edit: After some further investiation, it looks like the Orbx Brisbane Landmark addon includes the TV station broadcast towers on Mt Coot-tha so they would be the most western models in the pack. While they are much closer to the Western Freeway than Suncrop Stadium, as you mentioned in another comment, they don't clash with my addon.

I watched a couple of tutorial videos on YT and referred to them during the process of making this mod. It seemed daunting at first, and there are a lot of steps to follow, but it only took a couple of hours. I've started to build models of the signs, that's going to take quite a bit longer. Baby steps.

As a side project tonight, I decided to give the Springwood Target roof sign a go, tell me what you think.
