Milviz F-86 Sabre - Full Aircraft (Native Conversion) - Image 1

    Description

This is the Milviz F-86 Sabre for FSX, converted to native GLTF format for use with MSFS and distributed as freeware with permission from Milviz/Blackbird. This aircraft DOES work in VR as of version 10

Unfortunately the V10 update to the model will likely break some of the liveries put out by others. The fixes should be quick and easy; I hope the authors will update their files soon.

    Key Features:

    • Wing ordinance can be toggled between clean, fuel tank, rockets, and a bomb using the payload weight in the pop-up menu. Default loadout is tanks. Whatever loadout you select can be seen by other players.
    • Air show smoke (open source courtes of Touchingcloud) is tied to the Logo Lights
    • Canopy can be opened when on the ground using the Taxi Lights keybind
    • When stationary and on the ground, a GPU can be shown by toggling the Wing Lights

The cockpit gauges are largely functional but nothing in the cockpit is clickable. Milviz made this a condition of releasing it. For an easier way to read your altitude, airspeed, etc. look up the Shift Z stats add-on.

A big reason for this project was to convert the exterior model to native .gltf format so that it could have the true reflective appearance of an F-86. This requires proper Comp texture files to be created for each livery.

The base package comes a number of liveries; some have been updated with Comp files thanks to Joe Laars. The other liveries have generic Comp files that apply a uniform roughness value - not ideal but good enough for now. The rest of the original FSX livery folders are included, but disabled.

I am hoping the community will help with remastering the older liveries so that they can be included in a future version. I also encourage everyone to create new liveries and share them with the community. The original FSX paintkit files are included in the pack.

Someone asked for a way to support my efforts, so I created a page to accept tips if you are so inclined. Tips are absolutely not expected but any support is greatly appreciated - https://www.buymeacoffee.com/aviator671

Thank you for the very fun to fly port for the historic F-86! The plane is responsive in the air, lands and handles nicely on the ground. Good exterior modeling for a freeware. I like flying it so much that I made a video flying it! Here is a shameless plug: https://youtu.be/QnttMERZtis?si=deppV5ehfDiN4uFE

Great work, love flying the aircraft

Awesome plane! Well done, especially for freeware. I am having an issue though, and this happens with every fsx port I've tried so far, not just yours. If I go to reset the plane (after a crash or to jump up altitude a bit quickly, etc.) instead of the plane resetting or increasing altitude, it spawns on, almost in, the ground. So basically I cant reset the plane. Any insight would be super helpful. Thanks!
EDIT: found the solution. in aircraft config at the bottom you need to add a value to the "ui_certified_ceiling =" parameter. default is -1 typically, which will spawn you into the ground on reset since max altitude is -1 lol

How do I remove the ground power unit?Every time I fly it is attached to the plane and I don't know how to get rid of it.

It is tied to the Wing Lights so you can turn them off and it should disappear. However it is also set to disappear when moving faster than 1 knot so it should not be visible when moving or in the air

Don’t normally leave reviews but this deserves one, for a freeware plane this is fantastic, I only ever fly in VR and this is astonishing… most of the dials don’t work but expected for a free plane, it has speed and altitude which is basically all I need…. A joy to fly and one of the best freeware planes ever created for MSFS

Says it is VR ready, but for me the entire cockpit is pink. What could it be? All else looks great.

Pink means the game cannot find the texture files for that part. Which liveries are showing as pink?

It was F-86 Sabre RNoAF MU-U

Beautiful job converting for msfs and thank you Milviz for releasing this to freeware. A joy to fly and the cockpit is Excellent! It's a welcome addition for those that get a thrill from early jets. I've used it to chase a few imaginary Migs across the Yalu river in hot pursuit. I hope we can get the F-100 someday.

This is really cool, now we can open the canopy and have a GPU.
    Keep up the great work.
    Thanks,

    Thank you for the update.
Is it possible to add the Asobo default Garmin GPS 430/530 to this panel? This is my #1 airplane to fly in the sim. Also FSRadiopanel is a great addition too, for those who haven't tried it yet. it gives the F-86 a very workable autopilot, radio stack, panel switches for lights, mooving map, etc....

Thank you! Now I can fly this beautiful plane in VR!

Thank you so much for making this VR compatible! The F-86 has always been a personal favorite, and this one just looks incredible. Especially for freeware!

Converted interior model to native GLTF - aircraft is now VR compatible Added GPU cart and canopy animation (see readme) Unfortunately the model update will likely break some of the add-on liveries already published. They should be easily fixed, so hopefully the authors can update them soon
