MSFS Livery Tools - Image 1

    Description

ATTENTION! Since version 1.7.3 upload, there are reports of a false virus alert when downloading on Win11 with Windows Defender. One may try downloading it directly from Github if this happens (it worked for me). The latest release can be found at https://github.com/leandroarndt/msfs_livery_tools/releases

    MSFS Livery Tools

MSFS Livery Tools is a Windows application to help creating liveries for existing aircrafts on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (it probably works with MSFS 2024 too, but cannot extract KTX2 textures in the current version). It deals with all bureaucratic steps of livery creation, so that you can focus on your creative work:

    • Package your livery and automatically create the needed files and folders.
    • Create texture maps from glTF files (including those already built for MSFS).
    • Extract images from glTF JSON files and compress them again to DDS format.
    • Convert selected DDS images to PNG and back to DDS.
    • Creating the directory structure of a package.
    • Creating an "aircraft.cfg" file based on the original aircraft and variation information.
    • Creating a "manifest.json" file (optionally based on the original manifest).
    • Creating a "panel.cfg" file and changing:
      • variation override;
      • external registration font color and stroke.
    • Creating descriptive JSON files for DDS textures (.DDS.json).
    • Creating flag file for textures (.FLAGS) – not on the graphical user interface.
    • Creating and updating package layout files ("layout.json").
    • Managing thumbnails (converting from capture tool, resizing and adding a placeholder).
    Instalation and usage

Download and install latest release (run as admin if you experience problems with file writing permissions). A shortcut will be created in your windows menu. Refer to the wiki for help.

    Requirements

MSFS Livery Tools uses Microsoft's texconv.exe in order to extract and compress texture files.

    Supporting

If you like MSFS Livery Tools and want to support it, please consider donating or subscribing to the author's YouTube channel – indeed, the whole application has been created to customize liveries for this channel.

Virus detected by Win11 when downloading :-(

This false alert may happen when downloading applications with an embedded Python binary. You may try to download the installer from Github or manually run an anti-virus on the downloaded file. Another, lengthier approach would be installing Python 3.13, downloading the source code from Github and running the following command on the installation directory before using the app: python -m pip install -r requirements.txt
The Github link is at the installation instructions at the description here.

You need to run as admin if you want to install on the default ("C:\Program Files (x86)\") directory.

MSFS_Livery_Tools_Installer.exe is broken. Unusable on Windows 11. Error for opening file for writing for all files.

It's actually been developed and tested under Windows 11. You need to run as admin if you want to install on the default ("C:\Program Files (x86)\") directory.

Hi, Will there a msfs 2024 version?

Sorry for the late answer. I've not invsted in MSFS 2024 until now, so I don't have the means to test it. According to what I've read from Microsoft, there should be no need for a new version.

Liveries created for 2024 ( not conversions from 2020) use the ktx2 file types. Will these tools work with those or would I convert them to png, use your tool, then convert back to ktx2?
I can use Nvidia Texture Tool to convert back to ktx2

I downloaded the latest version of the app and am attempting to run the MSFS_Livery_Tools_Installer. When I start to run the installer, I get a message saying there was an error opening or writing [file name]. If i try to move on with the install, I get the same message for every file. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

I created a folder in C: Program Files (x86) and copied the EXE file into it and then ran it as administrator.

Hi, not sure what I did wrong, I created a new project using the same folder as the .psd files that I was using from a paintkit, these files were permanently deleted without warning and I have lost hours of work, will these files be recoverable?

Hi! This happens if the application finds an existing project at the selected folder and you answer "Ok" at the dialog questioning if you want to erase it (the project) – maybe it should only overwrite the .ini file. I'll change this behavior.

Hello ! I figured out how to use msfs_livery_tools-main via PowerShell. As for MSFS_Livery_Tools_Installer.exe, it no longer opens ! I have a cmd page that closes immediately !
What I need is to know how to use msfs_livery_tools-main to do the PNG > PNG.DDS conversion
Should we open PowerShell where the PNG files are located and apply the command line ?

The application should be run from its own folder – there are cases when running it elsewhere might prevent its launch.
