In January 1957, the former Shanghai Administration of Civil Aviation prepared to establish the first flight squadron after the liberation of Shanghai. The squadron then underwent several integration, expansion and name changes. In 1988, according to the management system reform plan of "separation of government and enterprise" of Civil Aviation of China, China Eastern Airlines was established on the basis of the fifth flight brigade of the flight team, and other branches of the team were successively assigned to the newly established China Eastern Airlines.
