RWE Kraftwerke (RWE Power Plants) - Image 1

    Description

The Neurath power plant is located in the south of Grevenbroich and borders on the area of the municipality of Rommerskirchen and the town of Bedburg. The operator is RWE in Grevenbroich-Neurath (Rhein-Kreis Neuss). Measured by the installed electrical gross output of 4,400 megawatts, it is the largest power plant in Germany and the second largest lignite-fired power plant in Europe after the Bełchatów power plant in Poland.

The Niederaussem power plant is a base load power plant operated by RWE Power with lignite in Bergheim-Niederaussem (Rhein-Erft district). It consists of nine blocks built between 1963 and 2003. Blocks A and B were shut down towards the end of 2012 when the two BoA blocks at the Neurath power plant went into operation.
With a total output of 3099 MW net, it is the second most powerful power plant in Germany after the Neurath power plant.

The Frimmersdorf power plant is a decommissioned lignite-fired power plant in the city of Grevenbroich. In the meantime it was one of the largest coal-fired power plants in Germany and in the early 1970s it was the largest lignite-fired power plant in the world. It is located directly at the Garzweiler opencast mine in the Rhenish lignite mining area and originally had 16 power plant units.
