Description
This add-on is Dortmund Airport 21. It features various key elements - such as animated ground traffic, people, passengers, windsocks, and flags - that bring the airport to life. An up-to-date ground layout is a key feature too; all lines and ground markings reflect the current configuration of the real-world airport.
The entire site at Dortmund Airport 21 features a significant gradient. This is particularly evident in the area of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), the runway, the apron, and the surrounding terrain. This is where the MSFS24 elevation model truly comes into its own. The elevation data is so precise, and the airport grounds are rendered with such accuracy, that even the slightest undulations in the terrain are visible. Furthermore, thanks to a sophisticated technique, the runway has been designed to match its real-world counterpart almost perfectly.
Foreword
This add-on is dedicated to the developer Peter Hiermeier, who sadly passed away far too soon. Peter was a colleague I held in high regard. He was the original creator of the airport. Thank you for everything, Peter!
Important note regarding photogrammetry!
This add-on is not compatible with photogrammetry! If photogrammetry is enabled, unsightly graphical glitches occur -particularly at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT). Please either disable photogrammetry globally (completely) in the settings menu or simply uninstall "City Update 1: Germany." A version compatible with photogrammetry will be created at a later date.
Contributors
A big thank you goes to Pavel Movzer. He provided the textures for the BVB Tower. The newly created version of the airport (the original) is his work. His scenery is distributed by Aerosoft (Aerosoft Airport Dortmund).
Special thanks go to Oliver Smolinski for providing extensive on-site information that allowed the airport to be brought up to date. He also created the GSX profile. Oliver runs his own virtual airline based at Dortmund Airport; his website is FreeWings VA. He looks forward to your sign-ups!
The scenery wouldn't have turned out this well without beta testers. So, a big thank you to Steffen (Flugi), Jörg (Scotty), and, of course, Oliver!

I’ve downloaded the lovely edwl scene.
Unfortunately, the gates are sinking into the ground. I can’t work out why. I’ve read the instructions and followed the recommended steps, but without success.
Could you suggest a solution if you’ve managed to sort this out?
Thanks in advance

Great scenery, thank you very much!
Just for my understanding: is it correct, that the airplanes start with their tails orientated towards the terminal? If so, the blast during engine start is towards the terminal? The ground markings for different aircraft types suggest, that the nose should point towards the terminal?! But I must confess, I am not familiar with the local situation in Dortmund airport.

It is true that in Dortmund, aircraft are positioned nose-first toward the runway rather than the terminal. Blast fences are in place to deflect the engine exhaust during engine start. However, the APU at the rear is also started, and it too produces an exhaust stream. To address this, "APU deflectors" are installed at several positions to prevent the exhaust from hitting the terminal windows. For safety reasons, the yellow stand number signs were also removed from the fueling system masts and mounted on the blast fences instead.

Many thanks also from me that you have produced this great scenery also for MSFS 2024! Even if I prefer to wait for the version that is compatible with photogrammetry: The fact that I coincidentally discovered your scenery among the newest Germany sceneries, has lightened up this morning for me. So it is great that you keep up your great work. Thank you again for all that you are doing for this community!
