WilcoATC is a free air traffic control assistant for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. You communicate with a virtual controller using voice or text, in English, and receive realistic ATC responses with a radio-style voice.

Important: WilcoATC does not currently use an LLM or generative AI.

The ATC system is based on predefined templates, rules, intent recognition, and flight-context validation. This allows WilcoATC to provide structured and context-aware ATC interactions without requiring an AI model, an internet connection, an account, or any external AI service.

How the ATC System Works

WilcoATC does not generate its ATC responses using a large language model.

Instead, it uses a combination of predefined ATC templates and application logic. The software analyzes what you say or type, determines your intent, checks it against your current flight phase and tuned frequency, and selects an appropriate ATC response.

This approach makes the system predictable, lightweight, and fully local.

The voice you hear is generated locally using a neural text-to-speech model and then processed with a radio-effect filter to give it a more authentic ATC radio sound.

Requirements

• Windows 10 or 11
• Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
• .NET 8 and the MSFS SDK / SimConnect
• A SimBrief account (optional, for flight-plan import)

No AI service, LLM, API key, or internet connection is required for the ATC system.

Installation

Extract the archive and run WilcoATC.exe.

On first launch, the default voice model is downloaded automatically.

Start Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, then tune your clearance or ground frequency to begin.

Once installed, WilcoATC runs locally on your computer.

Current Status

WilcoATC is in early alpha. The departure flow is functional, but the software is still under active development and you should expect bugs.

The arrival phase (approach, landing, taxi-in) is not yet implemented. En-route Center frequencies are approximate when flying offline, and SID coverage depends on your SimBrief flight plan.

More ATC procedures, interactions, and improvements are planned for future releases.
