    Description

    Welcome to GateFinder!

GateFinder is powered by a community database of gate assignments. If you have GSX profiles that are missing, you can click Scan Installed Airports and then Contribute Missing in the settings. This generates a small anonymous JSON file on your Desktop that you can upload to our GitHub to help make GateFinder better for everyone!

    🌟 Key Features

GSX Profiles Support (Primary) : Scans your local FSDreamTeam GSX profiles to read precise parking sizes and airline codes.

    • OpenStreetMap Fallback (OSM): Don't have GSX? No problem! GateFinder queries live OSM data to assign compatible gates.
    • Interactive Mini-Map : View your assigned gate directly inside the desktop app or the MSFS In-Game Panel (supports zoom, recentering, and 4 styles including Satellite Imagery).
    • Live Traffic Check (VATSIM & IVAO) : Automatically bypasses gates occupied by other parked online aircraft so you never spawn on top of someone!
    • One-Click Installer : Detects your MSFS Community folder path automatically and installs the cockpit panel in one click.

    🛠️ Quick Start

    1. Extract the GateFinder folder anywhere on your PC.
    2. Open the desktop app, go to Settings, verify your MSFS Community folder path, and click Install Panel to add the cockpit toolbar panel.
    3. Enter your SimBrief Username/Pilot ID and click Save & Close.
    4. Click Import SimBrief Flight Plan to get your gates. Open the GateFinder panel inside MSFS (cogwheel icon) to view your gate position in real-time during your flight!

Performance Map Toggle: Added an option in Settings to disable airport maps.
urning this off disables map tile loading and rendering, significantly saving system resources for users on lower-end PCs (both in the desktop app and the in-game panel).

This is a really great addon! Can you please add a support for two community folders? Since SU4 there are two Community folders where the sim looks for addons. Community and Community2024. Thank you!

I've noticed that when I start the GateFinder.exe file, and then close it, it is still running in task manager. It will close when I do the end task.

    Hi,

To completely uninstall the older version of GateFinder, you can follow these manual steps:

In-Game Panel: Go to your MSFS Community folder and delete the wildbill75-gatefinder folder.*
Desktop Application: Delete the portable folder containing GateFinder.exe and its files.*
Auto-Start Registry: To prevent MSFS from searching for the deleted executable at startup, open the exe.xml file (located in your MSFS LocalCache directory) with a text editor like Notepad, and delete the section containing GSX GateFinder.*

Note: I will release a new update (V1.4) that includes a built-in "Uninstall" button directly inside the Settings menu. For future cleanups, clicking this button will automatically handle all of these steps for you!

    Hi,

Thank you for reporting this issue!

This crash happens because the application's configuration parser was attempting to interpret the %appdata% path syntax found in some custom GSX scenery profiles as a special formatting variable. Since the format didn't match what the system expected, it triggered an error.

We have just pushed a silent update to version 1.3 that completely disables this path interpretation, allowing GateFinder to load all custom GSX profiles seamlessly. Please download the latest version 1.3 files, and the error will be resolved.

    Happy flights!

Thanks for the quick response. I re-downloaded version 1.3, and thanks to the new map option you added, resource usage dropped to 0%, perfect !

It is a shame, though, that the map display consumes so many resources (especially compared to other, far more complex programs). While it isn't necessarily an issue with my CPU, MSFS can be so temperamental that I always try to optimize resource usage. Perhaps you'll be able to optimize that aspect in the future,

in any case, thank you for listening to feedback and for your hard work.

Hello, is there a way to disable the map display, or a way to optimize it? It consumes a lot of CPU resources—constantly around 20%, with spikes up to 40% when the map loads (at least for me, using a 7800X3D). Thanks.

    Version 1.3

MSFS 2024 Compatibility: Added full automatic path detection for MSFS 2024 (both Microsoft Store and Steam editions).
    Smart Scenery Validation:
Upgraded the detection system to support custom sceneries purchased directly from the MSFS Marketplace (Official folders) or managed via MSFS Addon Linker (nested directories).
Custom GSX profiles will now only load if the matching custom airport scenery is physically installed, preventing "ghost" recommendations and automatically falling back to OpenStreetMap (OSM) for default/streamed layouts.
In-Game Panel UI & Layout Improvements:
Fluid Resize Fix: Fixed a visual bug where resizing the in-game panel window would leave the scrollbar track floating in the middle of the window. The panel layout is now fully responsive and fits all screen aspect ratios.
Accurate Boarding Badges: Fixed a display bug where airports without jetways (like Skiathos LGSK) would show "Jetway Boarding" in the panel. The panel now strictly respects the has_jetway property and correctly displays "Walk / Bus boarding" badges.
    Bug Fixes & Code Refinement:
Resolved styling and DOM conflicts with other third-party In-Game Panels.
Fixed rare edge cases in airport parsing.

In MSFS 2020, MXI Design Thessaloniki Airport, says in all gates "Jetway boarding". I check with GSX .ini editor and there are no Jetways at all which is true because I know very well that airport. Proper folder, proper scans. Why this ?

Hello, yes I noticed that too. I'm going to take a look into it.

    GateFinder

Have you ever landed at a massive airport after a long flight and wondered: "Which gate should I taxi to?" or "Where does my airline actually park here?" GateFinder eliminates the guesswork. It automatically imports your current SimBrief flight plan and assigns you the most realistic departure and arrival gates, perfectly matched to your aircraft type, airline, and real-world operations.

    Version History

GateFinder V1.4.1 — Release Changelog 1. Hotfixes & Critical Bug Fixes The Problem: In V1.4.0, a simple substring check was introduced to filter out General Aviation/Ramp gates (e.g. searching for "ga" in the gate name). Because standard passenger gates are named "GATE", this matched the substring and excluded almost all passenger gates, leaving airports empty of selectable gates. The Fix: Replaced the naive check with a robust split-word validator (is_ga_ramp_gate). It now splits gate names on standard delimiters (spaces, dashes, underscores) to perform exact word-boundary checks (e.g. matching "GA" or "MIL" specifically, without matching "GATE"). 2. Performance Optimizations Instant Application Startup Replaced the heavy, slow recursive folder walk (os.walk) of the MSFS Community directories with a smart lookup of MSFS-standard package layout.json files. Scenery BGL files are now scanned and indexed in milliseconds, reducing app startup times from up to 45 seconds to near-instantaneous. Fast SimBrief Flight Plan Fetch: Converted OpenStreetMap (OSM) Overpass API gate queries to be loaded lazily (only when a gate is missing coordinates or when the airport isn't in the local GSX database). This bypasses unnecessary API network calls for fully mapped airports, speeding up the SimBrief import process by 3 to 5 seconds per flight. 3. UI/UX Enhancements & Window Settings Minimize-to-Tray Icon: Minimizing the window now hides it entirely to the system tray (removing the taskbar icon to keep your workspace clean). Click the tray icon to restore the window. Exit Confirmation Prompt: Clicking the "X" close button now opens a confirm dialog ("Are you sure you want to quit GateFinder?") to prevent accidental closure during flight. Dynamic Settings Window Sizing: The settings window now auto-adjusts its height (expanding to 980px in Settings, and restoring to 870px in the main dashboard view). This guarantees that the bottom action buttons (Save & Close, Cancel, Uninstall) are never cut off. 4. Database Scan Feedback & Tooltips Detailed Local Profile Scan: Redesigned the scan feedback area with left-justified text layout. Isolated any additional local airports (profiles installed on your PC but not yet registered in the community terminal-rules database) into a dedicated visual panel (pill). Interactive Tooltips (Mouse Hover): Added detailed hover tips on both scan labels to explain the distinction: Synchronized Airports: Fully supported with automatic airline-to-terminal routing (e.g., French airlines routed to Terminal 2F at CDG). Additional Local Airports: Profiles loaded locally for gate size and occupancy checking, but without airline-to-terminal filtering rules. 5. New Toggle Options Show/Hide Wingspan Clearance Info: Added a "Show wingspan info (gate size limits)" checkbox in settings. Toggling it off completely hides max wingspan clearances (e.g. "Max: 36m (Easy fit)") in both the desktop app and the MSFS in-game panel. Dynamic Online Networks Hide: Unchecking "Check online networks (VATSIM / IVAO)" now instantly hides all occupancy summaries ("Occupied:...") on both the desktop dashboard and the in-game panel without requiring a flight plan reload.
