The Control Display Unit is the main interface between pilot and flight management computer in the PMDG 737 and 777. Flight plan entry, performance data, navigation setup and many other tasks run through it. In the simulator, the CDU often competes for space with the rest of the cockpit. Many simmers work with a small pop-out window, zoom in and out repeatedly, or squint at a screen that is already crowded with other tools.
A new add-on called Remote CDU, published by TeeWoine, addresses this problem. It is available for both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and it is aimed at owners of the PMDG 777 and PMDG 737.
Features
As the name suggests, Remote CDU moves the CDU for the two PMDG airliners onto a separate device, such as a tablet or a phone. You can then operate the unit on a second screen instead of using a window on your main display. This leaves the main monitor free for the cockpit view, the outside scenery or other tools, and it puts the CDU within easy reach on a device you can hold or place beside your keyboard.
The add-on covers both the 737 and the 777, so you do not need a separate solution for each aircraft. This is useful if you switch between the two types, since the same approach to CDU access works in both. The 737 and 777 CDUs differ in layout and function, which makes a shared tool practical for anyone who flies both.
The release is compatible with both current versions of the simulator. You can use it whether you have moved to MSFS 2024 or are still flying in MSFS 2020. It requires the respective PMDG aircraft, which are not included. For setup details, supported devices and any additional requirements, refer to the description on the download page.
