TAIMODELS has released a new scenery add-on recreating EKBI - Billund Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator, available for both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. Located in central Jutland, Billund Airport holds a distinctive place in Danish aviation history, one closely tied to the origins of a company whose name is recognized worldwide. Today, Billund Airport serves as Denmark's second-largest airport outside the Copenhagen area, handling both passenger and cargo traffic while remaining closely linked to the Lego brand that put the town on the map.
This recreation of Billung Airport focuses on bringing the airport's current layout and infrastructure into the simulator with a high level of detail. The ground markings and textures have been hand-crafted using PBR materials and are based on the airport's latest layout. Terminal buildings, cargo facilities, and other airport structures have also been modeled by hand, again using PBR material to achieve realistic surface detail and lighting response. Inside the terminal, you'll find detailed interiors complete with animated screens.
The airport lighting has been recreated to match real-world references, covering taxiways and aprons for night operations. A custom digital elevation model (DEM) ensures the surrounding terrain blends naturally with the airport grounds, avoiding the flat or mismatched elevation issues that can sometimes affect default scenery. For those who use ground handling add-ons, GSX profiles are included, allowing for integrated pushback, catering, and other ground service animations at Billund.
