Laredo International Airport occupies a distinctive place in American aviation. Situated in Laredo, Texas, directly on the U.S.–Mexico border, the airport serves a dual purpose that few others in the country can claim: It is both a regional commercial passenger gateway and a major international cargo hub. Its geographic position makes it a critical link in cross-border trade, with the broader Laredo area consistently ranking as one of the busiest land ports of entry in the United States.

Creator csharpe has now brought an updated, detailed rendition of KLRD to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The scenery was built using the MSFS SDK, with a approach to balancing visual fidelity against performance. Rather than relying on heavy custom assets, the add-on assembles MSFS library objects in configurations that closely mirror the appearance of the real terminal buildings and supporting structures, achieving a recognizable result without the framerate cost that heavier custom geometry can introduce.

Airport lighting, fencing, taxiway signs, surface markings, and the overall taxiway network have all been updated to reflect the most current satellite imagery and real-world video footage available. The UPS and cargo apron area receives particular attention, with a number of buildings and hangars that were previously absent from the simulator's default representation now present in the scenery.

If you enjoy flying domestic regional routes in the southern United States, or are drawn to the logistical complexity of a busy cross-border cargo operation, Laredo International makes for a compelling destination or departure point. The airport sits within reach of San Antonio, Monterrey, and numerous smaller Texas airfields, giving it strong potential as part of a regional network. The add-on is available as freeware on Flightsim.to. If you find the scenery useful and want to support csharpe's ongoing work, taking a moment to leave a rating or make a small donation through the page is a meaningful way to encourage continued development.
