Midland, Texas sits at the heart of the Permian Basin, one of the most prolific oil-producing regions in the world and a hub of general aviation activity in West Texas. Midland Airpark (KMDD) serves as the area's dedicated general aviation field, operating alongside the larger Midland International Air and Space Port (KMAF) to accommodate the region's busy mix of private, charter, and business aircraft traffic. Despite its real-world significance to the local flying community, KMDD has historically received little attention from the flight simulation scenery community — until now. Developer TXPiper has released a comprehensive rework of Midland for both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, rebuilding the airport from the ground up to bring it in line with its real-world counterpart. The result is a scenery package that replaces the simulator's default representation with accurately placed infrastructure, custom-built facilities, and the kind of attention to detail that makes a familiar home airport feel genuinely recognisable.

    KMDD Basin Aviation FBO

The centrepiece of the package is a custom Basin Aviation FBO building, the fixed-base operator that serves as the primary services hub at the airpark. Alongside it, TXPiper has modelled custom hangars and supporting ground facilities, giving the airport a sense of place and purpose that the default scenery simply doesn't capture. Runway and taxiway geometry has been corrected to match real-world placement, and parking positions have been reworked to reflect how the field actually operates on the ground.

Beyond the structural improvements, the scenery includes static aircraft to populate the ramp, custom airfield signage, and accurately positioned segmented circle and windsock placements. Custom night lighting rounds out the package.

    KMDD Ramp and Hangars

To get the most out of this scenery, you will need the UK2000 Object Library, which is available free of charge through the MSFS in-sim Marketplace. For an even more populated ramp with additional static aircraft types, TXPiper also points users toward the QuebecFSXX Static Aircraft Library, though this is entirely optional. Installation follows the standard community folder method — simply unzip and drop the folder into place.

    KMDD Night Lighting

Early feedback from the community has been warmly positive. One reviewer who flies out of the area professionally noted it made their day, while others have highlighted that Midland rarely receives any simulation coverage at all, making this release a welcome and long-overdue addition. 🔗 KMDD Midland Airpark is available as a free download on Flightsim.to.
