FlightSim Studio has released the ➡️ Super 27 Expansion Pack, an upgrade to its Boeing 727-200 series that introduces modernized engines, updated avionics, and new cockpit features. The package builds on the existing 727-200 passenger and freighter variants, bringing the aircraft into its real-world “Super 27” retrofit configuration that became popular with several airlines during the late 1980s and 1990s.

The defining change is the replacement of the classic JT8D engines with JT8D-217C pods, known for their higher thrust and distinctive clamshell thrust reversers. The expansion also introduces refined flight dynamics, updated performance to reflect the more powerful engines, and a high idle mode to improve handling characteristics during approach and taxi. These changes aim to capture the unique blend of old and new that the Super 27 represented in commercial aviation.

In the cockpit, the upgrade equips the 727 with modern instrumentation alongside the classic layout. Pilots gain access to digital fuel gauges, an auto-spoiler system, dual DME receivers, and a moving map display. A digital vertical speed indicator with integrated TCAS further enhances situational awareness, and it can also be used with the standard 727 variants.

The most significant addition is the optional Collins EFIS suite, complete with APS-85 autopilot and VNAV capability. Available via the clipboard menu, this retrofit replaces the traditional ADI and HSI with electronic displays, giving sim pilots the choice between flying with legacy analog instruments or more advanced avionics. This flexibility makes the expansion particularly versatile, catering to those who want to experience both eras of 727 operations.

Both passenger and freighter variants are supported, and the package includes a wide selection of authentic Super 27 liveries, ranging from major carriers such as Eastern and TWA to smaller operators including LAS Cargo, Nomads, and IFL Group.

The Super 27 Expansion Pack is not a standalone product and requires FlightSim Studio’s Boeing 727-200 Passenger or Freighter version to function. For simmers interested in exploring how the 727 evolved into a modernized workhorse, this expansion offers a detailed and historically significant upgrade. You can purchase the Super 27 Expansion Pack now through the ➡️ Flightsim.to Store.

I can’t believe that people has paid so much for those rubbish that FSS can keeping releasing their low-quality product😔

You know how you know it’s rubbish? Not even pirates touch it.

So what’s so low quality in it?

Poor system modeling mainly. for example, wrong hydrolic system logic, unusable dme update function for civa, unable to follow gps route in certain cases etc.But instead of fixing these bugs , fss just keeps releasing new addons such as the 722 pax version, with little new feature but just new fuselage modelnow they claim that they build a usable vnav for 727, do you believe that?btw, their erj still has no usable vnav 2 years after its initial release😊

Well the real 727 had very very limited Vnav capabilty in reality. So that’s quite correct. From what i can see so far, most stuff is well modelled in the 727. If they make a good package price together with the Super 27 expansion, i will probably get it.

You are right, but “ build a vnav that reflects real world inaccuracy” and “make a buggy and unusable vnav system” are two different things. And sadly, what I have found in those fss products is the latter

DME update for civa is very much usable, I do it quite often and it works perfectly. About the hidraulic dystem there was an innacuracy with the airstairs that has been corrected since. It is cool to trash devs for anything, but then how do you expect devs to develop anything if all people do is trash them. The times where software was delivered correctly on launch is over, sadly, but I fly the 27 on the dayly and am quite impressed by depth of it, especially if compared to other vintage birds available. On this note, I think we need more Airbusses, we clearly don’t have enough of them on 2020.

This is a malicious comment. The 727 is good. Now, I won’t be buying the expansion, but not because it’s bad. The whole point of the 727 (for me) was using the primitive avionics. If I want the expansion, I can just fly a 737.

The 727 is a super fun plane to fly. Yes it’s not study level, but it’s not rubbish at all.

That sounds exciting, I’ve always enjoyed exploring new aircraft in FlightSim Studio, and the Boeing expansion seems like it will add some interesting challenges and realism for fans of flight simulation.
