Invercargill Airport has arrived in Microsoft Flight Simulator, bringing one of New Zealand’s most distinctive regional hubs into the virtual skies. Located at the southern tip of the country, Invercargill is New Zealand’s southernmost airport and an important link between Southland and the rest of the nation. Its long runway, capable of handling everything from regional turboprops to larger commercial jets, makes it a versatile destination for a variety of flight operations.

The ➡️ new scenery by Astralis Studios captures the airport in detail, providing a modern terminal environment alongside custom modeling of more than 35 objects around the airfield. The developers have also recreated the surrounding area with attention to detail, enhancing immersion for approaches and departures across the Southland plains and towards nearby Stewart Island and Fiordland.

Night operations benefit from upgraded lighting, while custom ground markings and PBR textures ensure the airport environment reflects real-world characteristics. The package also includes the updated airport layout, reflecting current operations at Invercargill. With scheduled flights to Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, as well as regular cargo and medical services, Invercargill plays an important role in New Zealand’s aviation network.

Invercargill Airport (NZNV) is available now for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. You can purchase it on the ➡️ Flightsim.to Store.

The only thing missing is the smell of a cow farm when you get off the plane (ok there are a couple of other things missing, but it does a real good job of capturing Invercargill airport)

Hi, I notice in your review on the store page that you mention basic perimeter fencing — however the airport was upgraded to ‘secure’ in 2019, which would have required new/better fencing. The dev is active in the official MSFS forums so I plan to bring up any issues there, but I’m about as ‘unlocal’ as you can get (other side of the world, in the UK!) so any feedback from someone familiar with the airfield would be useful. Cheers.

Its a strange set up, I think it is because it is not full time international, only receive international flights as an emergency or, very, rare charter. I have worked extensively at this airport over the last 15 years, from doing survey work for parts of that upgrade from 2015 onwards (not surveying anymore, but my currently role takes me there from time to time). The fencing that is close to roads and the public is security fencing. However the fencing near the farmland is not (at least yet). It is 3 wire electric fence (connected to 240volt mains in places which is illegal but that farmer does that - it hurts like hell. Some of the electric wire is also barbed, which again is also illegal). Recently, 2023, I had decided I was going to build this airport for the sim myself. I got Airside permission and took photos (approx. 700) all over the whole site (with an escort from the Fire Safety Team on site). Seeing this airport come out I gave all the photos, DEM/DSM and first hanger model I built to the dev. At the time of my photos, the whole fence has not been upgraded, nor at the time of my last visit.

I bought this long awaited scenery. Despiste the little missing details which I cannot check because I am not from NZ, those FS2000-like surroundings are outdated. Even if in the real world is not so different, it turns the scenery into a cartoonish addon. All the grass should be changed so that the scenery looks more realistic. Picture 2 with those grass layers show it well. For the rest, I like the scenery.
