The Avro Anson, affectionately known as “Faithful Annie” holds a distinctive place in aviation history. First flown in 1935 and entering RAF service the following year, it was the Royal Air Force’s first monoplane with retractable undercarriage. Originally introduced as a maritime reconnaissance aircraft, the Anson went on to serve in vast numbers as a trainer, communications aircraft, and light transport throughout the Second World War. Its versatility and longevity made it one of the most recognisable British twin-engine aircraft of the era.
DSD Simulations has now brought the Anson Mk I to Microsoft Flight Simulator as a freeware package, focusing on period accuracy and authentic operation. The release exclusively represents the military Mk I variant and includes two distinct cowl configurations: the early-war type and the smoother, later-style cowls. This allows you to recreate specific airframes with historical precision.
The aircraft has been built natively for Microsoft Flight Simulator, making use of modern PBR rendering techniques, full simulator compatibility, and optimised performance. A fully clickable cockpit features authentic instrumentation and working systems appropriate to the Mk I. Immersive touches such as functional bomb bay doors, opening cockpit windows, and interactive crew stations add to the atmosphere, making the aircraft suitable not only for historical RAF operations but also for virtual airshow flying and classic aviation enthusiasts.
