Bonn-Hangelar Airfield (EDKB), situated northeast of Bonn, Germany, holds a distinguished place in aviation history as one of the oldest operational airfields in the region. Originally established in the early 20th century, it has served a range of roles, from military to civil aviation. Today, the airfield caters to general aviation, flight training, and recreational flying, drawing visitors with its scenic location near the Rhine River and its proximity to Bonn. The airfield supports various operations, including regional emergency services and helicopter activity, and is a hub for both motorized and glider flight training. Hangar8’s latest release for Microsoft Flight Simulator brings Bonn-Hangelar Airfield to life with a detailed and authentic representation.

The scenery incorporates over 100 custom-designed 3D objects, including hangars, buildings, and structures, all created from scratch using high-resolution reference images. The layout and markings of the airfield have been recreated to mirror their real-world counterparts, complete with realistic runway, taxiway, and apron details. Immersive features such as dynamic animations, custom night lighting, and static aircraft with authentic local liveries provide an engaging experience.

Bonn-Hangelar’s civil and Federal Police aprons are both included, with a user-controlled taxiway gate for additional interactivity. While primarily designed for Flight Simulator 2020, the scenery is compatible with Flight Simulator 2024, with only minor issues reported during testing. This add-on is freeware and now available on Flightsim.to. If you enjoy the scenery, consider supporting hangar8 by donating to help continue their work on such detailed projects.

Being a PPL certified pilot who actually landed into EDKB I was very interested in downloading this airport. However, in my case it turned out to NOT be compatible with 2024.

Double and overlapping control towers and overlapping hangars to the left of the tower. Significant elevation issues near the fuelstation and helicopter area. Otherwise a very nice representation of this airport.

Hi jcorstjens! In the Doc\ subfolder, you can find a folder named "0hangar8-airport-edkb-fix24". Please try copying that into the community folder, then renaming the original scenery folder to "zzz-hangar8-airport-edkb-bonn". This adds MSFS 2024 - native exclusions >below< the scenery so double buildings and terrain artifacts are removed. Please let me know if this helped! You can find more information on how and why within the documentation.

Endlich mein Heimatflugplatz. Als Kind hab ich immer den Segelflugzeugen hinterhergeschaut. Oder eher, dem Fallschirm am Kabel.

I have both 2020 and 2024 installed on my computer. What I found is that since the last update from msfs2024 the community file of msfs 2020 (holding an older and less complete EDKB) is fused with the community file of 2024, causing the described issues. After deleting the EDKB file from the 2020 community folder the airport really looks great!!

Glad it worked for you! Your findings are really interesting. Would you mind sending me a DM with some details about the community EDKB you refer to? Thanks in advance!

Hello Hangar 8, Thank you very much for your feedback. Your suggestion has resulted in a wonderful Hangelar airport on my PC, my sincere compliments! After all the issues apparantly were not related to the old Hangelar file (39Mb's) in the 2020 Community folder. Before I did read your email I allready had deleted the old Hangelar file (39Mb) for 2020, that I downladed several month ago from Flightsim.to. With many thanks and best regards, Jan
