The flight simulation community has been eagerly anticipating the release of new aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Now iniBuilds has unveiled a teaser video showcasing their upcoming A350 airliner. This preview has sparked interest amg on the community, as it offers a glimpse into the level of detail and realism that can be expected from the anticipated aircraft. The teaser video highlights several key aspects of the A350 model, including its advanced 3D modeling and attention to data accuracy. The video also provides insights into the aircraft's systems and cockpit layout. In a development post on the iniBuilds forums, the team has shared further insights.

    Exterior Details

The teaser video offers a glimpse of the A350's exterior, showcasing high-resolution textures and 3D modeling. iniBuilds has paid attention to detail, including fully modeled engine interiors with openable cowlings. The exterior model also includes openable APU cowlings and visible wear indicators, such as brake wear and tire condition.

    Cockpit Features

The cockpit preview demonstrates iniBuilds' commitment to accuracy. The video highlights a highly detailed flight deck with functional systems. The Onboard Information System (OIS) is shown displaying essential flight information, including a Compton VOR departure plate for Heathrow Airport. The Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor (ECAM) is also featured.

    Systems Preview

While the teaser focuses primarily on visual aspects, it hints at the depth of systems simulation to come. The video showcases basic electrical systems functioning correctly. iniBuilds has indicated that future updates will cover more advanced systems, including a comprehensive Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) implementation. This EFB will manage maintenance options, fueling, and other operational aspects of the aircraft. The developers have also mentioned their intent to replicate most MCDU functions, including secondary flight plans and pilot waypoints on the navigation display. Additionally, they plan to implement CPDLC integration and a simulated ACARS system with new functionalities.

    Dynamic Wear and Tear

iniBuilds has introduced a dynamic weathering system for the A350. This feature allows the aircraft's appearance to change over time, reflecting its age and usage. As you fly the aircraft more frequently, you will notice:

    • Paint peeling away from rivets
    • Painted screws being replaced by unpainted ones
    • More pronounced sealant around access panels
    • Dynamic oil and dirt streaks in areas prone to leaks
    • Accumulation of dirt and grime on flaps and control surfaces

This system builds upon the dynamic tire wear feature seen in the A300-600R.

    Realism and Data Accuracy

iniBuilds has taken significant steps to ensure the A350 model for Microsoft Flight Simulator is as accurate and realistic as possible. The development team has employed various methods to gather and verify data. To address gaps in their data collection, iniBuilds regularly rents a full-motion A350 simulator for extended periods. These sessions allow the team to capture intricate details and fill in any missing information. The simulator also serves as a valuable tool for verifying the base aerodynamic data package that iniBuilds possesses. iniBuilds has furthermore assembled a team of approximately 12 dedicated A350 experts, including engineers and pilots.

    Available A350 Data

The A350, being over a decade old, has a substantial amount of publicly available data regarding its core systems and overall functionality. iniBuilds has leveraged this information to create a comprehensive simulation. The team has acquired custom data for several key parameters:

    • Exhaust gas temperature (EGT)
    • Fuel flow for all flight phases
    • N1 values across different flight stages
    • Thrust percentage (THR%) data specific to modern Airbus family aircraft

The development team aims to replicate nearly all MCDU functions, including secondary flight plans and pilot waypoints on the navigation display. They also intend to implement full CPDLC integration using Hoppie and a simulated ACARS system with new functionalities. The Onboard Information System (OIS) will be custom-built by iniBuilds, maintaining the style and format of the real A350 OIS.

The iniBuilds A350 for Microsoft Flight Simulator is shaping up to be a groundbreaking addition for Microsoft Flight Simulator. While the teaser video has given us a glimpse of what's to come, it's clear that iniBuilds has put a lot of effort into making this aircraft as true-to-life as possible. Guys calm down. The project has only just been presented. There is neither a release date nor price information, It's far too early for that.

something can always happen in the field of software development. I wouldn't set the plan in stone. See Fenix...A319/A321 was planned for the end of 2023, now it's the end of July 2024.

Agree. I’m rather tired of all these ‘look at what we’re doing’ videos. Enough with the previews. Finish the product then release it. If you must include a cinematic video with stirring music (yawn) to accompany release, feel free.
