Fenix’s CEO Aamir has taken to their official Discord server to share another of their famous and extensive development updates where the community gets to learn a lot about their renowned A320 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. 1This time, Aamir talked primarily about the much-anticipated IAE engine variant for the Airbus A320 for MSFS as well as their work on the A320 V2 update, which was mentioned for the very first time now, and improved EFB and installer.

    IAE Engines

According to the development update, the work on the IAE engines for the A320 has slowed down due to the conflict in Ukraine, where the lead developer responsible for the engine integration is based. Aamir reassured the community that despite that, the development is progressing where possible and that the developers are aiming for an exemplary level of accuracy.

Once ready, the IAE engine variant of the aircraft will come free of charge for existing owners of the Fenix A320 for MSFS. The release date for such update though remains unknown.

    A320 V2

Continuing through the development update, Aamir has also mentioned that the team is working on a new large-scale visual update for the aircraft. As he further explained, back in 2019 when the development began, the team had very little information on what will the simulator be capable of, thus the aircraft was developed in a way any other platform could sustain it. But now, MSFS has evolved and the team got a better idea of what the simulator is capable of, thus being able to introduce more details to the addon. The update, internally dubbed V2, is going to be free of charge for existing owners and will be a near-total visual rebuild of the addon. The team is not yet ready to share anything more specific on the update.

    EFB and installer

Lastly, Aamir has detailed their work on a new EFB. Whilst the interface and functions will remain the same, the team is rebuilding the underlying architecture to support the performance, scalability, and maintainability of the EFB. This is the backbone of future features such as a more robust state-saving system.

On a similar note, Fenix is working on a new installer that would allow users to update the aircraft through it, and not have the user download a separate installer file and install it manually.

This kind of stuff makes me appreciate a developer. I will be getting the Fenix, despite having the - excellent and free - FBW. I hope PMDG are taking notes (they are not).

what do you mean 'I hope PMDG are taking notes (the are not)'? PMDG have delivered 12 updates to the 737 since launch, with what is likely to be the closest thing to an actual EFB coming very soon. And PMDG don't have to re-release a V2 of their current models as they were built insim. Comments like this don't make sense in the real world.

This is the most generic and unoriginal opinion ever. Tired of seeing the same thing over and over and over again on every article.

You are joking right? Fenix did their model and textures in 2019 and they still feel self-conscious about it to the point that they are now reworking them to make them even better. This is despite the fact that they are the best visuals we have ever seen in a simulator. Meanwhile PMDG has peaked in terms of laziness and shamelessly reused a ton of assets from their P3D model which was already dated to start with. I have never seen such lazy work. Just look at their terrible normal maps, graphical glitches, normals, low resolution geometry, textures etc. It's a complete joke. Never compare PMDG with Fenix in terms of graphics because they are on completely different levels. Oh and btw, those 12 updates that PMDG has released are things that should have been there on day one together with an EFB. We are still waiting for a recycled product that they have done several times before to be finished.

Unoriginal because it's a common opinion shared by many. PMDG peaked 10 years ago and now there is another dev in town that leads the way in how things should be done. Fenix is giving us an even better model/textures less than a year after release of the original. PMDG made us buy the same model from P3D that we have already bought a few times before.

Hi. First of all, PMDG planes are excellent, there is no question about it. However, the pricing is insane - and for aircraft they have released previously. Don't tell me MSFS is that different from FSX. Even so, 70 euros for one variant, then more for another and more for another, is not a system I am on board with. I bought the -600 for 30 euros and I am happy with it, but I am not going to buy any others. Fenix provides updates that they don't need to, for an aircraft they built from scratch and all that for 50 euros. That's what I mean "PMDG should take notes". What next? The 747 for 90 Euros, with the SP version for another 40? Possibly. And it will be great, no doubt. But too expensive and too much "DLC". At least they're not charging a subscription. Yet.

Hi, it's fine if you think my reply is unoriginal. Guess that means others have the same opinion. I will agree that I did not make very clear what I meant. Now that it's clearer, do you really think PMDG's pricing policy is realistic?

Lets be honest: What about HONEYCOMB and autopilot panel, which is not working till today? What about virtual MCDU which is for free in FBW, or even for couple of $ in PMDG? Fenix base on ProSim. There is an unknow for us problem with the business relationship between Fenix and Prosim. Lets talk about that kind of problems, but not about ''cosmetic'' changes. Cause in my opinion it is shame if we can not use easy hardware like for example Honeycomb.

My Fenix A320 model is perfectly fine. Wish they were prioritizing IAE, winglets and A319, A321.

Fenix is by no means "leading the way" in how things should be done. As a owner of the 320 myself, I am very pleased with the product. If your idea of a flawless product is one without the engine variants, no winglets, no single class configuration .etc then I'm not sure what I can say to you. I will admit that the A320 has a impressively precise 3d model and flight dynamics; and I'm sure you'd agree as well. If that is true, why do they plan to revisit the modelling phase instead of the multiple additions that are crucial to the product? Say what you want about PMDG, but they released their 737's with all winglet variants, satcom, lighting, and braking options, MCP and pedestal configurations, single class configuration, cockpit windows and even the overhead instruments are changeable. To me, that is a complete product. And also, why do you bring up the fact that the 737 model is from P3D? Is that relevant? Feel free to point out any inaccuracies in the model. I will also admit that the Fenix has far better textures. Updates after a release is something to be expected. Even scamware devs do it. Does Fenix seriously deserve credit for this? Your last sentence is ridiculous, I won't even bring it up.
Performance is something I would bring up, but I don't feel like it.
Lastly, I want to say I have nothing against Fenix, I think their product is great, I spent many hours with more to come, but I will say the whole EFB optimization and "visual update" is overkill due to how accurate the current version is (I may be wrong, I'm not a professional).
    j

Yes, I believe it is. Please let me now how you think it isn't realistic.

Pretty much PMDG is selling you a BETA product, perhaps a downgraded model from the old P3D without EFB and still at the end of 2022 all PMDG planes aren't capable of fully ACARS and don't even dream for CPDLC which been around from Fslabs Aerosoft times on p3d via Hoppie , what about Circuit breakers function ? I mean this is a day by day duty during cockpit prep and I don't really care about the eye candy part but you can't even simulate cabin door interaction, still you can't even open cabin vents, and I can going and going. A lack of innovation wont call it but absolutely poor evolution comparing for what others dev are now delivering as standard.

First of all, I never said that Fenix was a flawless product and I doubt Fenix themselves would even claim such a thing. However, unlike PMDG who make promises they never keep, Fenix is actually doing the work and delivering high quality work with an attention to detail that is non exsisting at PMDG, not the least in the visual department. PMDG is all talk with marginal output. They cannot bring anything fresh to the table any longer and just keep rehashing the same work they have done for the past 20 years, like an old singer who refuses to retire.
I will give you that PMDG has released a product with more options and that Fenix still has a way to go in this department. However, anything less from PMDG would have been blasphemous seeing that this is their third or fourth time releasing a 737. Yet and still many of the “features” you mentioned are purely visual with no impact on the simulation. Anything that requires extra work is a no, like refusing to do a non winglet version of the 737 because they say it would take too much time. You can also turn this around and say that PMDG lacks many of the things that Fenix has been able to deliver, namely: a high quality cabin, windows and doors that can be opened in the cockpit with simulated temperature impact, next generation modeling and textures, ACARS, CPDLC, and most importantly an EFB with Navigraph integration and performance calculation. The PMDG EFB is still listed to be released summer 2022 on their website and still nowhere to be found. But I guess that is Asobo’s fault, lol.
Mind you that the 737 is actually my all time favorite aircraft. Imagine my utter disappointment that it’s in the hands of PMDG instead of the likes of Fenix.
Oh and the reason I bring up P3D is because I am tired of PMDG fooling people into believing that their 737 for MSFS is “built from the ground up” to justify their pricing and people buying it for the fourth time. I am also tired of having a brand new 737 for MSFS that already feels dated and like it was released a few years ago. They have used a ton of assets, textures and code from their old product. Heck the MSFS version even has the same bugs that never got fixed in P3D. Let’s see if they manage to fix them in this cycle or if we have to wait for next time they build it from the ground up and want to take our money again.

flames against developers, are pointless! it's up to you to decide to buy or not. but I will say it is refreshing to read that Fenix, want to improve their model and not sit back and just say that's it like it lump it.
this strong competition in the market can only benefit simmers! with the A310 being worked on to improve this great free add-on with more and better to come. then we have FBW teams freely given community work with their Neo and soon a A380 these superb efforts all for us simmers . all this is seen by other developers. which could also see the final demise of the rip off merchants. (you know the one's). long may it gone on.

It's so hilarious that people trot out "12 updates" as if that's a good thing. Like sure, it can be, but do you have, y'know, eyes? Can't wait for that EFB 🤣

Most of the people in here crying about PMDG like they cheated on you or something. Enjoy the planes for what they are.

I only have the Fenix for a couple of weeks and I enjoy it very much. Some days ago I had a problem with the calibration and could not solve it. I contacted their support team and asked for help. Within a few hours I received their reply with a full page of instructions, very detailed, what to do. I am not a computer expert and without this help I would have been lost.Within a short period of time the problem was fixed. This is what I call the perfect customer service! Thank You!

They are - the team working on the visual updates is not the same developer working on the IAE variant. Different people have different roles!

Counterpoint....A 737 is a known commodity. An A320 is a known commodity. PMDG captured the 737 in good enough detail, to not need a full re-do. Fenix did not capture the A320 in good enough detail, and has to start over.

In terms of shape maybe but in terms of detail no chance. Fenix blows PMDG out of the water in terms of details.

Lets be honest the A320 is different to the PMDG I dont understand why people even bother bringing the PMDG into this

All I need is a remote MCDU! 🙂 This other stuff is irrelevant to me. Who cares what engine type it is or whether I see sharklets when I'm in external view?! I'm there to fly and navigate an airplane! THAT'S the fun part and what actually matters.

not even the flippin lights work with the alpha yoke, the AP controls don't work with the Bravo quadrant....over half of my setup is left unusable.

I take my hat off to Aamir and team. they have been so fair with the community i would have happily made a contribution to the IAE upgrade.

was it a sidestick nullzone calibration? i have that issue right now and cant figure out how to fix it. what worked for you?

warra cockpit door animation for LMDG!!!!

My throttle levers in the plane would not work anymore, I configured it several times with the MCDU on my thrustmaster TCA and it did not work. As I mentioned above, Fenix mailed me a full page of instructions (7 different points) from drivers check to Sensitivity curve in controls. I could mail you the instructions if I had your Email address.

What are you talking about Fenix is selling one single aircraft for more then PMDG and you get like 3 variants with PMDG purchase, what have you been drinking ? Fenix cool aid? I am not saying Fenix is bad aircraft bus saying that PMDG is somehow more expensive then Fenix is absurd !!! Also PMDG allows me to use my home cockpit with it, Fenix does not ! so I am stuck with keyboard for the overpriced Fenix, hence they will not see me as customer I donated to FBW instead where I can use their aircraft with my home cockpit although being Boeing home cockpit replica at least I can use it to some degree like autopilot and FMC and even some parts of overhead (lights etc..). Fenix just like Navigraph to which I am subscribing by the way, are two way overpriced pieces of MSFS add-ons for what you get, maybe I would go for it if Fenix made it an A330 at least one does not exist so far but and excellent and free FBW A320 is there as an excellent option for casual flyer that doesn't do extensive calculations if he can take off from runway where he did last 20 times. I was Happy to buy both 737 and 738 from PMDG and happy to wait for their EFB I am sure it will be awesome and both are different. As far as I am concern only thing that I would get out of Fenix is lighter wallet and nicer cabin since so far FBW does not have a cabin.

Mostly a fair view of things, I don't disagree. Personally, I choose not to buy. Neither the PMDG products (except for the reasonably priced -600) nor the Leonardo. They are way too expensive for what they are. To me.
