Following the announcement that their Airbus A310 rendition is going to be released for free as part of the 40th Anniversary Edition update, iniBuilds has recently taken to their forums to further introduce new aircraft they are working on to also be included for free in the update.

Alongside the A310, iniBuilds is also working on custom high-fidelity renditions of the Curtiss JN-4 Jenny, a giant part of aviation history first introduced back in 1915, and the Grumman G-21A Goose, the world’s first private luxury aircraft. Both of these new addons will also be free of charge and included in the 40th Anniversary Edition update for Microsoft Flight Simulator on the 11th of November 2022.

    Curtiss JN-4 Jenny

The forum post first put focus on the Curtiss JN-4 Jenny. Ubaid from iniBuilds detailed that their rendition of the aircraft features a highly detailed model of the Curtiss OX-5 Engine. Back in the days, the engine was very much exposed, so it was the team’s focus to really recreate this part of the aircraft, including all animations.

To quote Ubaid explaining the historical importance of the aircraft: “Many pilots, who would go on to become legends of aviation, took their first lesson or solo flight in a JN-4 and used it to complete many aviation firsts“.

Apart from that, we assume the aircraft will feature high-resolution PBR textures. In the case of the sounds and flight dynamics, it is still a bit of a mystery. Since none of the remaining aircraft are capable of flying, accessing the sound and flight dynamic information must have been quite a challenge.

    The Grumman G-21A Goose

In the case of the Grumman G-21A Goose addon, Ubaid detailed that every effort has been made to recreate the executive cabin in painstaking detail. Further, the team has featured authentic seating, bar, champagne bucket and restroom facilities. Ubaid further commented: “Special attention has been paid to modelling and texturing a highly detailed model of the Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Jr which powered the G-21“.

Both of the previously mentioned aircraft will be released alongside their Airbus A310 for free as part of the MSFS’s 40th Anniversary Edition update that is expected to be released on the 11th of November 2022.

What's this goose doing for us that the Big Radials Goose isn't? Seems like it's stepping on their toes.

This Goose is not stepping on anyone's toes. It's a executive G-21A version, the second model of the Goose produced. The version from Big Radials is a navigational training JRF-6B. It features a different cockpit layout, different performance and likely offers more detail and fidelity (not only visual but on operational aspects too!) compared to the freebie version from ini ;)
Basically any freeware project (like the Vans RV7) over here would step on the toes of any payware aircraft (like the SimWorks Vans RV14) sold.

Actually there are several original and replica airworthy JN-4's, although needless to say they don't venture far from their home base.

I mean, it's not like that isn't a thing that happens sometimes, and when it does it can either be well deserved, or not at all, for various reasons. The JRF-6B isn't perfect (but it is awesome and I recommend everyone buys it, if only for the wing fishing) and I suspect this one won't be either. Personally, I would've preferred iniBuilds do a variant with a bit more distinction from the JRF-6B, let alone the Widgeon (that payware is a bit dated in some areas), let alone any of a number of other great seaplanes of that era, but I'm sure this was just unfortunate timing. Don't get me wrong, I'll take one of every Goose please, it is THE seaplane, but it's just a bit odd that we're getting two high quality Geese before all sorts of iconic planes haven't gotten the treatment yet at all.

Its being free for a start........

I have the big radials goose and its not all that great. It flys like crap, the Visuals are not very good as they are way to shiny. I think this one looks better.

@Mr Pugh...what your issue with it being free? guessing you work at Big Radials?

I have the Big Radials Goose, I think it's great, although I don't have any real world experience of flying in one.

If anyone has any problems with freeware, then they should be making better PAYWARE and not low res,low poly fsx stuff 🥳 😉

I also have it and for me the engine sounds are somewhat unconvincing.

The Big Radials is really fun to fly. So are the Freeware Vans and the SWS Vans as well. I think I have too many planes haha.

Does it really matter whether it flies like the real thing? When you borrow your friend's car, do you complain that it doesn't drive just like yours. No, you adapt, and try to drive it so that it doesn't crash. Simming is play, pretend. I don't go to bed at night telling myself, "Wow, I flew a 310 in MSFS today. Think I'll rent a real one tomorrow." I guess Im just stirred up by all the noise being made over XP 12, and I just want to scream, "It's a freaking piece of software." So forgive me, I'm old and have heard it all before.

This is one of the most accurate and intelligent comments I have read lately about the eternal and absurd world of "physics" and whether one simulator is better and more realistic than another.

I find it kinda ironic that people who sit at a desk and behind a screen with a joystick complain that something is not "accurate" or "real" enough for them....or is that just me?

Do you realize some of us are actual pilots and do want it to be as accurate as possible? It may be a game to you, but not a game to all.

Which is why Microsoft proudly displays "Game of the Year Edition" Not "Simulator of the Year Edition" :)They are all games. As a pilot you know this.

You fail to realize that there are a lot of Real World Pilots that use these platforms at home. The realism does matter, getting it right does matter, other wise why do it at all?

It's a fact that is not lost on me. I guess my remarks were made thinking of those who expect the "realism" of a computer sim to extend beyond how needles and gauges move in response to the way levers and buttons are set, which of course it can never do. Flying, as for anything else in life, is a full sensory experience of moving through 3D space.

I agree 100%. Almost all of us will never know what the real thing flies like. Much less planes that flew over a hundred years ago. Who cares. As long as it can be flown with a reasonable level of precision and is fun for people... that's all that matters!

I am a real life glider and touring motor glider pilot and don't search the perfection in a "game". If you are a real pilot you know that the real thing is much more hard to master than even the best "study level" aircraft. I enyoy simming when the weather is not fine and don't pretend "reality 100%" because I know it is impossible. Most simmers in RL would destroy the undercarriage of a Cessna 152 at the first attempt to land. They have no idea what safely is.... I also have 10 years experience with student pilots (very young ones) and I can assure you that simmers are not better than students that never saw an aircraft before. I would say that I prefer a student that make sport (skying, soccer, athletic) to a simmer that is used to sit on a chair all night thinking to computer, frame rates, resolution, etc etc.

Simulator is literally in the name :)

If you're actually a pilot - as I am as well - I think you tend to stop worrying about whether the sim is nitpickingly accurate in the flight models. You get that flying the real thing, and after a while, it becomes less of a big deal whether Flight Sim is or not.

hi im 16 and i find it very funny that yall are bickering on and on and ooooon about planes + software + ?GOOSE? + realism of some simulator like a bunch of people at NASA during the launch for Apollo its a plane for god sake the planes name is goose it dose not matter how it looks if your a pilot why are you using a sim if you are already a experience flyer unless you are a student thats explains why you are using a simulator to learn how to fly PULL UP PULL UP PULL UP get out of here with that IM A HOTSHOT PILOT HI IM TOM CRUISE AND I STILL USE A SIMULATOR TO FLY I ALSO STILL WEAR A DIPER get out of here with that pilot bull crap please.
