Develop the skills required and navigate complexities encountered by actual Top Gun pilots in authentic locations, including a carrier deck landing challenge, one of the most demanding operations in the world of military aviation. The Top Gun: Maverick expansion also contains a Maverick Edition livery for the F/A-18E Super Hornet, Super Hornet training missions that will introduce you to radical flight maneuvers, five high-speed, low-level challenges through mountains and canyons, a never-before-unveiled hypersonic aircraft, and a mission to roar into the stratosphere. This expansion, created in partnership with the Top Gun: Maverick film and Paramount Pictures, will push your piloting abilities to the limits and beyond!

This expansion pack was officially announced in summer last year and scheduled for release back in November 2021. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it got delayed just like the movie. The expansion can now be downloaded both on PC and Xbox for free in the Microsoft Flight Simulator in-game Marketplace.

The “Top Gun: Maverick” expansion contains:

    • A “Top Gun: Maverick Edition” livery for the F/A-18E Super Hornet.
    • Three training missions for the Super Hornet that will allow you to master radical flight maneuvers including unrestricted take-offs, split S maneuvers, and low altitude, high-speed maneuvering through complex terrain.
    • Five high-speed, low-level challenges that require utmost skill to navigate just above mountains and traverse through canyons.
    • A carrier deck landing challenge, one of the most demanding operations in the world of military aviation.
    • A never-before-unveiled hypersonic aircraft that can attain speeds of Mach 10 and altitudes greater than 150,000 feet above sea level.
    • A mission to roar into the stratosphere.

Is that me or real bugs with the darkstar? after take off, I couldn't go faster than 450knt climbing at 10 degres. Once high enough, I dove down (-30degres), and reach easily mach2.0 in few seconds ( 5), then I slow down, and stay level at 10000, and the plane was accelerating and even with throttle a 0, I went up at mach 3.7, made a U turn, and finally engine stop .There is no vortex, and no sound barrier effect, and after "landing" ( completely missed) the plane flipped and was bouncing on his back. Ok they maybe didn't thought that someone will land with the wheels above the plane. lol

    What is "sound barrier effect"?

You almost did it! so yes, it struggles to reach mach 2. I suspect this is because the engines are not efficient at such slow speeds. so you need to climb like you did, then dive. you don't need to do 30 degrees of dive but you can... just don't hit the ground lol. once you pass mach 2 it comes into its own. it will climb and scream its way to 3.5 and beyond. once you are higher than 3.5 and above about 50k feet (make sure your fuel cell is on... this was off for me when I started on the runway for some reason. then hit your scram jets! you will climb to pretty much the ceiling of the sim and you can hit mach 10. enjoy

How does anyone go this fast this low with these frame rates?

With the F18, when you pass sound barrier you can see very nice vapor effects around the plane with you go on outside view

Thanks, and I found on the 3rd page, the "Max Mach Profile", the way to reach Mach 9!!!

    this is a joke...

I agree, its pathetic, lets sort out the bugs that still exist since SU5 before adding this rubbish.

Seems cool up front as Hollywood was touched by MS. Great video. Yeah, okay, but the 5200 mph (knots) Experimental DarkStar is more Temperamental or just plane MENTAL than any other aircraft I've flown even during 12 years in FSX.

I got it off the ground, she crashed soon after. Funny how I could not adjust the sea-level height. At KBKL (Burke Lakefront she should, as Sea-Level be about 600ft, yet this Darkstar had me at 7 feet and would not adjust at all. Oh well, more bugs to work out....

    I'll check that out... thanks

Same problems here ... can't fint the solution ...

Simple… Upgrade your PC, optimize windows and the game. Used to have 45fps on average with a R5 2600, 16G RAM and a GTX 1080, upgraded to a R9 5900x, a 3070 and 32G and the game is silky smooth, may it be in 2D or in VR. It’s an investment

It has to do with add on aircraft in your community folder. Remove any old/unsupported add-ons that may be interfering with the Asobo F18. I removed a few at once (I dont remember which ones) and the issue went away. You could then add them back in 1 at a time to see what causes the issue.

there is a tutorial on you tube I suggest that you' watch they want you to maintain 10 degrees for a bit then get the scrams going and go to 30 degrees. it's a bit similar to the Concorde climb out if you've it.
