Description

George Best Belfast City Airport (ICAO: EGAC) is a single-runway airport in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is adjacent to the Port of Belfast and is 3 miles (5 km) from Belfast City Centre. It shares the site with the Short Brothers/Bombardier aircraft manufacturing facility. The airport began commercial operations in 1983, and was known as "Belfast City Airport" until it was renamed in 2006 in memory of George Best, the legendary professional footballer.

I started this project in 2019, sometime after uploading my Eglinton FSX scenery, and have been working on it, at times, since then. Custom building models, models, textures and materials created by me, Jerome Logue. I have used the excellent Asobo Jetway for Belfast City Airport's Gate 4, and a few sparse sections of Asobo fence. I used ScruffyDuck Software's excellent ADE, to help properly adjust the Airport layout in MSFS Developer Mode. I had created several tall Belfast building models, athough have decided to leave them out, as there seems to be some great freeware Belfast City Scenery available on this site, which I haven't had a chance to download/try out yet, so this release is designed to be used with the default MSFS scenery.

Hopefully you will enjoy this freeware rendition of George Best Belfast City Airport.

Installation: Place the folder (jeromelogue-airport-egac-belfast) within the zip, into your MSFS Community folder. The egac-v5qjii.ini file is for GSX Pro users.

(edit: there is now and excellent payware version of Belfast City Airport, so not sure how much will be added/updated to this project. I started this before the days of Google Street View and had always intended to update the other side of the airport, although doubt this will happen now, as I kept starting other projects anyway :-). I'll probably do my best to update for Sim Update compatibility in the future though)...

v1.01 corrects the apron that looked stripey in certain lighting conditions and also corrects the night-time illumination of some of the airport gate signs....

v1.02 corrects airport ground services not working properly, and has a slightly improved floodlight model.

v1.03 allows connection of airstairs (Ramp Connection) at Gates 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and has been compiled with latest version of SDK.

v1.04 makes airstairs less likely to behave erratically.

v1.05 is compiled with the latest version of the MSFS SDK, for compatibilty with MSFS Sim Update 5 Hotfix 1.18.15.0

v1.06 floodlights fixed and an erroneous very tall default autogen building removed from Belfast Harbour area

v1.07 removes duplicated PAPI lights!
PAPI lights should now appear in the correct real world locations.

v1.08 a few minor improvements to various buildings. (also hotfix to previous v1.08 just uploaded - strange Bombardier texture adjusted).

1.08 Hotfix2 Bombardier textures now corrected, as intended peviously.

v1.09 fixes an ILS and G/S capture issue - ILS and G/S capture now works correctly again.

v1.10 compiled with the latest SDK for Sim Update 6 compatibility

v1.11 compiled with the latest SDK for Sim Update 7 compatibility

v1.12 partially restores functionality and availability of airport ground vehicles...still work in progress...(edit: ground vehciles now present...functionality still be to be implemented...using default Asobo vehicles..trying to get them to work the way they used to....another update incoming soon-ish)...

v1.13 Asobo's excellent default airport ground services now available again

v1.14 compiled with the latest SDK for Sim Update 8 compatibility

v1.15 compiled with the latest SDK for Sim Update 9 compatibility

v1.16 improves the way AI traffic operates at the airport...still working on this...

v1.17 another small update to AI traffic taxipaths - (this version has been re-updated to correct v1,17)

v1.18 compiled with the latest SDK for Sim Update 10 compatibility

v1.19 recompiled with latest SDK for Sim Update 11 (40th Anniversary edition) compatibility (includes small change to Airport Services config that was conflicting with Glider training missions)

v1.20 recompiled with latest SDK for Sim Update 12...new custom smoke and vapour effects added...still work in progress

v1.21 recompiled with latest SDK for Sim Update 13

v1.22 recompiled with latest SDK for Sim Update 14. Adjustments to Gate Sizes and taxiways to improve AI traffic use of airport. Still working on this.

v1.23 GSX Pro profile added. Interior now modelled - based on various parts of airport interior - not 100% accurate - only loosely based on various photos/videos of the interior. Although the main aim was to have it look there is an interior, from the outside. Various updates and improvements to various models and a few new antena models and airport objects added.

v1.25 includes a few texture/normal fixes and an updated GSX Profile, with Cargo Ramp pushback positions...

v1.26 fixes the double runway issue and a few further texture fixes...

Thank you for your work. We really appreciate that. Unfortunately, people often forget to provide brief information on how to proceed with updates, i.e. whether you simply install them or whether you have to laboriously find and delete old files. Unfortunately, the problem runs like a common thread here on flightsim.to.

You have to always delete and reinstall for an update. Just search for the same file in you community folder it's not that deep.

Almost perfect scenery addon. It is really fun to fly there.
The only thing that bothers me a bit, is the fact that there is nothing in front of the terminal buildings. The huge emptyness you can see from everywhere, is really ugly. At least some ground markings would make it much nicer. When something gets added, I'll go up to 5 stars.

hi there - thanks for the feedback - you should probably try UK2000's payware scenery. It has the carpark and entrance much better modelled. I have bought almost all their other UK sceneries and they are awesome. I do plan to add a fence around the carpark and try and get the entrance a bit closer to what is is, although it will definitely be some time before that is added. This is pretty much a project that I started years and years ago and was always intended to be freeware. I do try and do most things that people suggest although it sometimes takes a while to get round to implementing all suggestions. Thanks again for the feedback!

you could try deleting the scenery cache index jeromelogue-airport-egac-belfast.dat file in:

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SceneryIndexes

(if C: is the drive you are using)

then reloading the sim.

Aside from that, make sure you have deleted the old version of the scenery, before installing the new one...

I have had this happen a few times as well, though - it's something I'm currently looking at...will try to post update soon...

a quick update...I have found the cause of this and am testing the fix now...should be uploaded soon. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I had noticed it myself a few times lately, although forgot to check what might be causing it!

Thanks for the airport and GSX profile. I wish more developers were including GSX profiles with their airports. I created one for EGAC many moons ago but will try the "official" one :).

ah cool :-). I've adjusted the scenery slightly in places to make GSX Pro items/services work better so had to make a custom profile. Feel free to amend this profile/create a new one, if you wish. I'm still getting used to GSX Pro so may have further updates in the future anyway.
