The Airport
Ocracoke Island Airport (FAA LID: W95) is a public use airport located one mile east of Ocracoke, a town on Ocracoke Island in Hyde County, North Carolina, United States. It is located on the Outer Banks, on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The airport, which is categorized as a general aviation facility, is owned by the U.S. National Park Service, and operated by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Ocracoke Island Airport covers an area of 50 acres (20 ha) at an elevation of 5 feet (2 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 6/24 with an asphalt surface measuring 2,999 by 60 feet (914 x 18 m). It also has one helipad designated H1 with a concrete surface measuring 100 by 100 feet (30 x 30 m).
Ocracoke History
In 1585, Sir Walter Raleigh's ship, the Tiger, ran aground on a sand bar in Ocracoke Inlet and was forced to land on the island for repairs. English colonists attempted a settlement at Roanoke Island in the late 16th century, but it failed, and effectively halted European settlement in the area until 1663, when the Carolina Colony was chartered by King Charles II. However, remote Ocracoke Island was not permanently settled, and became a pirate haven in the early 18th Century. It was a favorite anchorage of Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. He was killed in a fierce sea battle in Ocracoke Inlet on November 22, 1718. The grounds of what is now the Springer's Point Nature Preserve, just one mile due west of the airport, were said to be his hideout.
What's different in this Mod
Ocracoke airport now has its name emblazoned on the parking area (as does the real airport), as well as my exact reproduction of the airport office and the aircraft parking area shelter, which replaces the autogen buildings. Many flaws in the scenery have been addressed (mismatching textures etc.). The car park in front of the office has been exactly reproduced, as have the airport's unique helipad markings. The windsock was overgrown with trees in the stock airport, and these have been cut back (as they are in reality). Trees have been reduced in size in the area around the airport to more closely match the local bushes, shrubs, and smaller windswept trees which populate the area, and the area generally looks more like it does in reality. I've also added some human interest around the airfield and on the beach, with people meeting, sunbathing, surfing, and fishing. There are also a couple of boats offshore. All-in-all, the airport is much more realistic and has a lot more going on around it.
A big addition to version 1.2.1 is the Ocracoke Lighthouse, which has been carefully handcrafted to match the real thing. The stationary light turns on at night, and the nearby buildings - keeper's quarters, oil house and generator shed have been carefully modeled.
Notes
1. The newest version is 1.2.1.
Newly added is a detailed model of the Ocracoke Lighthouse with the correct stationary light, the Keepers' Quarters and the surrounding buildings. This is a work in progress, but the lighthouse and the three main buildings visible from the air are complete. Also I've included a few more details of the airport - fences and various parking structures have been added.
No libraries are necessary, and I've reduced the need for some libraries by adding my own models, but the following free libraries improve the scenery:
Animated Human 3D Models Library by Superspud (necessary if you want to see animated people)
JFS Beach Pack - Beach Accessories Library by JayFlySim (for the deckchairs, beach umberella etc.)
Static Boats 3D Model Library by Superspud (needed for most of the boats at sea and in the harbor)
2. The mod uses my own handcrafted 3D models and textures for the airport office, aircraft parking area shelter, signage, portapotties, chainlink fence, helipad, car parking spaces, and the "Ocracoke Island" text on the apron. I've also modeled the Ocracoke Lighthouse and its surrounding buildings. There is no photogrammetry in this mod. Please let me know in the comments how you like the mod, and if you see areas that could be improved. I will try to address every suggestion, and I will be looking at Ocracoke town to see if I can add more scenery.
3. The mod supersedes MichelVP's Ocracoke Lighthouse mod - if you are using this mod you will no longer need it.

Thank you so much for this!!! However for some reason, I am not getting all the items that you show in your photos. For example, the guy sitting in the chair on the beach is there but there is no chair and the only other guy is the guy facing him with his arms up but no other people, and the 2 trucks next to them are just shadows. a few further feet south there is a yellow truck but nothing else. Plus the airport waiting building is flat. Also the runway itself is slightly out of focus (hazy). Having said that, this is a huge improvement of the default airport and you cleaned up the trees in the ORV road to the beach!!! I do display the text Ocracoke Airport on the airport.
Do you have any idea why I'm displaying some of your items but not all of your items?
Much appreciated and I hope you do do the village itself esp. Howards Pub, Ocracoke Island Inn, the old cost guard station and more

The runway issue is weird. I haven't changed the runway at all from its stock version (my mod is technically a "scenery" and not an "airport", so my mod doesn't have a runway - it uses the runway that's there in the standard version. Also, all the materials and models I used are from the SDK..
I suspect the shadows you're seeing are the cars that were on the satellite image - everywhere there was a car on the satellite image, I added a car in the mod to cover them up.
I have taken a look at the models and I think I may have figured out what the problem is - apparently the SDK draws from any scenery I have in my copy of the sim, but that doesn't mean everyone else has it. Since this is my first scenery, I'm still learning, so I don't know exactly how some things work, and I had assumed the stuff in the SDK shows up for everyone. Clearly that's not the case. I will overhaul the mod and release a new version as soon as possible.
Thanks - Ian.
