    Flight Design CTLS - Rotax 914 - Image 1

    Description

    The stock Flight Design CT is modeled with a Rotax 912S (or iS). There are also some errors in the cfg files like wrong weights. wrong propeller blades (3 blades in the cfg file, 2 blades in the 3d model)
    There are some minor errors also with some instruments (CHT, Oil Temperature) which stay in warning/danger ranges at cruise power settings.
    All in all, it is unclear if asobo intention was to model a CTLS or a CT Supralight. We have a CTLS label on the fin but a CT Supralight badge on the cockpit. It is definitely confusing.

    I replaced the stock 100hp Rotax 912S with a turbocharged 115hp Rotax 914UL using data taken from Rotax datasheets.

    - https://flightdesign.com/ct-super-series
    - https://flightdesign.com/ctls

    The main difference with the stock 912 are 8kg of added weight, additional 15 hp and a turbocharger which will help high altitude operations.

    You said that Asobo was not sure to model CTLS or CT Supralight, but actually, they did it correctly (the label of the fin says CTSL not CTLS). CTSL stands for CT SupraLight.
    Propeller is also correct. CTSL POH states two propeller options, one is 2-blades and one 3-blades. But I guess Asobo made a mistake in the flight model. Can you confirm that this is still wrong or maybe it has been corrected?

    Can you explain what is wrong with weights?

    over 5 years ago

    just check the original cfg files and the declared weights in flightdesign website, there are some differences.

    for example
    original cfg file:
    max_gross_weight = 992 ; Empty weight, (LBS)
    empty_weight = 595 ; Empty weight, (LBS)

    flightdesign published data:
    Typical empty weight (equipped with rescue system) 639 Lbs.
    Max. take-off weight 1041,7 Lbs. (1320 Lbs.)

    I think the website states data for CTLS (light sport) for US marked which is heavier than ultralight (European market) modelled in the sim.

    I have just tested everything. It is exactly as it says in POH. Max cruise @4800rpm at 110kts with temps in the green (95 degrees celcius). It is perfect.

    over 5 years ago

    I could not get needles in green with the stock version and indicated it above, oil temps were always in the warning range using clear skies weather.

    over 5 years ago

    As of POH, weights are correct without the ballistic parachute that is required only in the UK. I had no issue with temps, maybe they corrected that in the last patch?

    Awesome! That other guy obviously doesn't know what it takes to mod a plane. I was part of the VL3 Rotax 915is mod and it was complex.

    over 5 years ago

    Thanks for your mod :) The CTLS always seemed a bit underpowered anyways!

    over 5 years ago

    thanks for your words. well, it was not really underpowered as the 912 is a popular engine option as far as I know and it runs nicely.. I just needed something with extra power to handle the alps and the 914 is an option as per FD.
    however, there were many errors in the cfg files as long as propeller and weights were concerned.
    It would be nice to have a 3-blade propeller though but they modelled a 2-blade on the 3d model :(
