    About this addon

Introduced to the world in 2017, the Gabriel is the new generation of GA trainers. It features the most modern and advanced Garmin avionics, powered by an efficient Lycoming io-320 producing 160hp, all of this in a carbon fiber airframe extremely well designed and inherited from the ultralight world.

    Here are some numbers:

    • Max rated altitude: 11,500 feet
    • Cruising altitude: 8,500 feet
    • Cruise speed: 150 knots
    • Range: 400 NM
    • Endurance: 2.5 hours

The Gabriel is the second aircraft designed and manufactured by a young Italian company founded in 2009 called Blackshape. As for this virtual replica, it's the third product of an even younger French company called Flying Fries.

We spent more than a year modeling, texturing, and bringing this add-on to life before we could finally and proudly present it to you. The flight model has been carefully tuned to the specifications of the real aircraft. And with the various options built into this Gabriel, the practicality of the full Garmin suite, the unobstructed view provided by the bubble canopy, the immersion generated by the custom and dynamic sounds, and the pure beauty of some stunning and sharp liveries, there is no doubt that your GA flights will take on a whole new dimension.

Here is a list of its main features:

    • Highly detailed 3D modeling and 4K texturing.
    • Custom sound pack created specifically for the Gabriel.
    • Modern engine/propeller simulation and modern fuel system.
    • Complex electrical system with working circuit breakers.
    • Multiple custom pilot/passengers that can be selected from the EFB.
    • Failure system including: breaking propeller, canopy, landing gears and engine stress.
    • Fly with or without engine covers... And get a close look at the Lycoming IO-320.
    • Multiple payload configurations: fly from the front or rear seat, with or without a passenger.
    • Uses the MSFS/Working Title native Garmin avionics and autopilot suite.
    • Aircraft configuration and fueling via the EFB (no need for the fuel and payload menu or the FS2024 EFB).
    • Engine and ground roll vibration effects in the cockpit.
    • Interactive exterior static elements (remove the chocks, pitot covers and access stairs manually if you wish).
    • All custom visual effects (various engine smoke, heat blur, dust and rain spray, etc.)
    • 11 unique liveries. Some of them are based on their real counterparts.
    • 5 LODs for  optimized multiplayer performance.
    • Lots of easter eggs to find!

In terms of quality, it is a plane that keeps its promises, is fun to fly and has enough charm to make you return to it over and over again. Difficult to judge in terms of realism, but when seen as an interpretation of the plane that prioritises fun, character and wide usability over perfect realism, it is a success, especially in terms of price vs. product delivered.

The aircraft is amazing, but only suitable for VFR. The Microsoft G3X isn’t usable, which makes IFR approaches impossible with this aircraft. I bought it with the intention of flying both IFR and VFR. Other than that, it’s perfect.

I'm not usually the biggest fan of GA aircraft, but I keep coming back to this one, which says a lot.

The graphic is excellent, the Airplane performance is very good, and the sound of the engine is a bit quieter the I would expect is the sound of the real plane, like this? Otherwise, it's fun to fly.

This is a beautifully modelled rendition of a very nice aircraft. I love the cockpit layout, it's a joy to control and the canopy makes this an excellent sightseer. Nice to see another Nav unit included, I use this to get DME distances (I haven't figured out how to do that in the G3X). A couple of small points which may be related either to the mod or MSFS2024, I've only just switched to 2024 after SU1 so I'm still getting up to speed on the many, many shortcomings of the sim.... Another reviewer mentioned the engine sounds, it does seem a little quiet once the canopy is closed, almost like the headphones are being used (I have checked, they weren't). Of course, if the real aircraft has such a quiet cockpit, then all's good. I'm having trouble with the G3X and dialling in courses for VORs, using both the course knob and the keypad. I use the Logitech panels with spad.next and I have the functionality working fine on other planes. Anyway, nice to see a relatively well sorted addon after my experience with so many bugged default aircraft that I was looking forward to flying.

Graphic : good Airplane Performence : Very good. (I liked that the cruise speed was 150 knots) Controlling : good. (but I think the roll rate is a bit slow.) Sound : Not bad (The engine sound doesn't seem to be very varied)

How nimble the plane is is extremely hard to balance in 2024. With how light it is, it really got thrown around to an extreme degree when making the plane more nimble.

A work of art, developed by Flying Fries without even having touched a single Gabriel in real life.... truly astonishing how the looks of this aircraft are rendered onto our screens. I very much enjoyed doing my small piece in the development of this aircraft. (yep, biased here!) Lord Frites has learned alot more in making this aircraft, learning how to do custom sounds, which might sound easy, but there's sooo much stuff to get into, and he's in no way finished learning! For those looking for easter eggs, this is the one ;) What else did we expect after his Stunningly wacky Scrapyard monster and the legendary, but not forgotten Howard Hughes XF-11? Congrats Flying Fries and cheers!

I am very impressed with this aircraft. The only shortfall in my opinion are the engine sounds. I have modified the sound file used and nudged the engine spec's just a bit and the results are awesome. What beautiful lines. Great job guys!!

What a superb rendition of a very beautiful, modern aircraft! Everything is thoroughly modelled, leaving the pilot with a very authentic feeling flying experience - the flight model is plausible, the complete set of customs sounds really puts you in the cockpit. This effort, along with the excellent XF11 puts the Flying Fries guys in rarified air with few other flight sim aircraft developers.

Fantastic add-on, sounds, textures, model, avionics everything works and looks really beautiful. I hope the trend of developing planes that want to kill you does not continue with the next one!

Following on from the XF-11 (my most flown machine to date) this was a no-brainer at release purchase. It takes a special developer to have two aircraft at such opposite ends of the scale but still deliver an incredible flight experience. I’m going to very much enjoy this little aeroplane in the future!

Update: Flying Fries graciously fixed everything I reported other than possibly the sounds which he's looking into, and more. Updated my rating. Original review below, but the things that still stand out negatively to me are the sound and the low-poly areas (there are still some directly in the pilot's line of sight.) My desire to fly the plane is strong, but I feel underwhelmed every time I do by those two key areas of visuals and sound. The control stick update is nice and not the most important thing, but it's still modeled incorrectly. I think it's good enough for 99% of people though! ---- It's a solid addon overall, but held back by its anemic soundset (inside and out) and areas of low-poly modeling (in areas that matter, like the glareshield which you see constantly) and low-res textures (throughout, but especially the seats, harness, carbon fiber areas) I will continue to test it out and adjust my review accordingly, but first impressions are that it's a decent value for the price with some limitations. Hopefully some updates and an FS2024 native version can help smooth it out! Edit: The roll rate is very slow, not sure if that's accurate. The flight stick does not look right at all. It's far too big, the ratio of handle to the boot over the stick is off, the shape is very simplified (and not accurate) and the bottons are not quite right from what I'm seeing in reference photos.

Yes, regarding the sounds I still need to figure out exactly what to do. Everyone has a different feeling about the sounds, it makes the task challenging. But I agree on the fact that they can be improved... I just don't know exactly where! I'm sure we will figure this out :)
