Hello

Another little addon manager. Made to match my own needs and just sharing with the community.

I tried to keep the UI very simple but it should hopefully do the job 'feature-wise'.

- lets you organize your addon freely in folder and subfolders in your folder of choice
- will create links in the community folder. There is no need to move files in and out of the folder.
- very easy to activate/deactivate groups of addons (single click)
- lets you save presets of addons
- lets you rename addons (link will be automatically updated)
- lets you add / update / remove addons

Installation :
- just extract all the files and drop them in a folder of your choice and run the EXE file

usage :
- create a folder where you will put your addons, add your addons in there instead of putting them in the community folder, you can create as many subfolder as you want to organize your files efficiently
- launch the application, in the options screen set your 'addon folder' and your 'community folder'
- just click on the checkbox to activate/deactivate addons
- rest should be fairly easy to understand (little quickstart guide should be coming soon if needed)

notes :
- if it doesn't work please try to set the application to run as admin, if it works but you still get the message at the start, just disable the message in the options screen
-i was made aware that other tools seem to do pretty much the same things but probably with some differences (have not tested them though because i learned about them after mine was released last week), anyway each has probably its own advantage and it's just free and just for fun, so you can freely decide to use mine if you find it useful.

big thanks to the guys in the AVSIM forum that helped me testing the very first versions with feedback and ideas. I will now post it here exclusively making it easier to maintain for eventual updates.

Thank you

Great work, one of the best tools for MSFS ever!

What it would make it simply perfect would be to team up with the author of the modellibchanger ( https://flightsim.to/file/5972/modellibchanger)

Integrating the check of the bgl and maybe rename it before ore while creating the symlinks would round it up as long several devs not pay attention on this.

hello thanks for your feedback. Since v05, my tool has an option to check for duplicates files (modellib and eventual other files too, use the menu 'Tool -> Check Addons'). I did not do a rename function because i didnt really think about it and it was not something requested so it didn't reach my mind, but yeah it's probably a good idea. Once renamed, the file is on your disk and the link will work just fine so, if you rename it with the other tool (haven't tested it yet but i guess i know what it does), it will work just fine with this tool everytime you enable/disable addons, there are no problems with that and there's no need to do it multiple times. Now i could very easily add an automatic rename function for the modellib.bgl in my tool but, now that that other tool exists, i would feel a bit embarrased by copying that feature so i'm not sure i would feel good about it. Had you posted this 'request' a few days before that other tool was released i would have certainly added that quickly seeing it as a good idea. And big yes, i'm all for cooperation, but in this specific case, it would just be about me adding a simple 'rename' function in my tool copying the idea of that other tool, so if the author tells me 'hey no prob do it' i'll certainly do it but, if not, then i probably won't as a 'respect measure' (which is probably not even needed in 2021 but hey i'm like that). Bit too much blabla sorry, hopefully it's understandable ;)

    Great tool!

Question: Can you say a bit more about the red text for some addons? Is it a problem that I should try to address before enabling such addons at the same time? Are these duplicate file names embedded within the addons?

    Thanks for your work.

thank you for your feedback. Unless there is a bug, the red indicator means that you have two different folders named the same in 2 different subfolders. It acts as a warning because you wouldn't be able to enable the 2 at the same time (the community folder has only 1 level so it would not be possible to create 2 links with the same name there). Let me know if it's not clear enough or if you think there is a bug somewhere because you don't have those duplicates. Pic with a test showing a duplicate name in red --> https://imgur.com/J54qEPe

In my case, the names in red are different so I thought it was an embedded folder within the addon that was named the same as another. I currently have four addons with different names with red text showing within my
    "community_hold" folder.

Maybe there is a little bug with that red indication, i will send you a little msg shortly to try to find out what's happening. Thank you. ** edit all seem fine, there were some duplicates **

Is there a possibility to add map feature (pins of owned scenery addons)? It would be great.

thank you for your feedback, i have started working on some 'map feature', there are some info in my reply on page 2 (for now) if you check a comment by pjglewis. Not sure if i'll do as i first, maybe your idea of just letting people place pushpin where they have their addons, not sure the time it will take but it's probably the next feature if i succeed in doing it.

Hi, I ran into a problem. When I put my addons in subfolders to keep them organized (which was the main reason for downloading this linker), I´m not able to select the addons anymore as linker states, it could not read the mainfest.json files. They worked before I put them into their respective subfolders. Am I doing something wrong? Any help appreciated!

hello, first make sure you run the tool 'as admin'. If it's the case you might have run a little issue with files that are first stored in %appdata% and that can not be read once moved outside that folder (a few users with the Ms-Store version had that problem), i will send you a little private message with some more info in a few hours (can't do it right now, just typing this quickly).

Wow, thanks for your fast answer. I´m running as administrator and I´m indeed using the MS store version. Looking forward to your help, thank you!

Edit: I checked out the (many) comments here and solved the problem. Just copying not moving the files out of community folder did the job.
So everything all right and definetely 5 stars! (6 are not available)

oh cool that you could fix it, yeah that move/copy thing in that special folder is a bit annoying because the first idea is obviously to move the files. thanks again for your feedback.

The program is great! But I'm missing a possibility to save the settings.

hello, thank you for your feedback. The preferences should be saved when you exit the program. If it's maybe the order of the columns that you want to save , for that you need to use the 'right click menu --> save columns order/size' option. The colums will then be restored on the next start. Let me know if it's something else that you think is missing. thank you.

Can we get a feature for seeing if we've named something the same as in another subfolder?

Thank you SO much for this...

I have OCD looking at my Community file and seeing the mess

hello, thank you for your feedback, you mean if you have 2 addons that have the same folder name but are in a different subfolder ? For that there is no real warning but, in the current version, both addons will show up in bold-red, so they should be quite easily recognizable if you expand all groups. Let me know if you were thinking about something else. Thank you.

First of all - great job, thanks!

    IDEA:

Possibility to add a "Map tool".

I had such a Mod tool for xplane and that has integrated a map where you could see which airports you have installed.

Even it´s not possible to make this automatically (grabbing the information from the mod and put a marker on the map) it would be awesome if this would be possible by our own (implement a map and let us set markers).

    Why?

Because I install a lot of airports and at the end I forget which cool locations I have installed :(

hello, thank you for your nice comment. As you said grabbing automatically the location from the mod is a bit out of my reach unfortunately. Let you set markers would be very much possible. I added a little explanation of where i was with a 'map feature' in a previous comment with a little screeshot, you can find it on page 2 if you're interested, it's a comment started by pjglewis. I still don't know exactly how how/if i can do it, but certainly all those requests for a map give me stength to investigate further. Thank you.

    Hi,
Yes, a map tool would be awesome and would make your addon even more neccesary.
Actually you could read out the coordinates from the .BGL-files (longitude and lattitude, check here: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php/BGL_File_Format#AIRPORT_.28FS2020.29)
But even a "manual map", where users themself have to place pins would just be great.
Thanks for all the work you already provided!

hello and thanks for the info, yes i'm aware of the BGL doc, but it's very complicated and i think it will work well for airport BGL but not sure about 'city' BGL (scenery can be a lot of different things, there is a little BGL decrytptor EXE in FSD forum, i tried it with some addon city BGL and it founds lots of lat/lon in numerous sections but none actually matched with the city, i'm really not sure how all that is organised). Tools like LittleNavMap do decrypt the airports BGL and gets all the info that's in it, but the developer is a long-time professional extremely skilled developer and that's far from my situation ;) ... for me it's a bit out of reach unless someone makes a library that decrypts BGL that i can use, i have to be honest. That's why i was investigating on a bit easier solution (even though it's a bit frustrating to not have the skills to do stuff the right way)

I can hardly reccomend this little tool enough! I used ModMan FX until today and this here uses a third of the space due to it just pasting shortcuts to the community folder! Before, I'd have the original in my addons folder, the unzipped version in the community folder and ModMan FX also put a backup in a seperate folder... additionally this is EXTREMLY fast :) Awesome!

I had a suggestion for an upgrade. As I get more mods, loading order becomes more important to get mods to work. Some mods depend on others to be loaded first to work at all

If the user could move a mod up or down in a list to indicate a preferred load order and internally the link name might attach a number which would then cause the mod to load alphabetically in order.

Similarly, a folder (ie aircraft, or airports or scenery) could be loaded in a user specified order.

    Would be very helpful

    Love your app

    Steve

hello, yes i have something about 'load order' in my list of pending requests (nothing is lost ;)), maybe it was coming from you. For now, i couldn't really figure out a satisfying way to do that, renaming all links automatically (by attaching a number like you said) i don't really know if it's the better solution. For most mods, i think you wouldn't even care about the order but then, you're right, you have probably a few ones that need a specific order compared to another one. I think the 'alphabetical order' method of loading that was choosen by the sim-developers was not really a good idea, all previous sims had a useful ordering sequence system that should have been kept. I know it's not what you are looking for but, based on this request, since v05 i added the possibilty to rename the link for a specific addon, if you do that (right click menu -> set custom symbolic link) when the link is created it will use your custom name-data instead of the original folder name. This is a bit cheap for now i agree, but it would at least allow you, if you are aware that one mod needs to be loaded before another one, to change its link name so that it will be loaded in the order that you wish (for stupid example but if you have 'addon_a' and 'addon_b' and you know that 'addon_b' needs to be loaded before 'addon_a', you could use that option to rename its link to 'addon_0b', after that, everytime you enable this addon it will use that custom name and it will be loaded before 'addon_a'). I will keep thinking about this because i agree it would be a great feature to have something like that but i'm still not very convinced on the way to do it, if you or someone else have some ideas i'll gladly check them (i'll investigate with your idea of the numbering a bit further too). Bit long msg for these small reply box, hope it's not too confusing, also feel free to contact me via PM if needed.

Great work, could not imagine MSFS without it. I just wanted to ask to add a feature for official addons, but you were quicker. I especially use this during development of new airports adding folders from my DEV/Packages folders. That way I can develop a bit faster. Thx!

Plain amazing. Works like a charm, easy to set up and it gives you so much freedom in organizing. With the "one click" presets you're ready to go in seconds and i brought my loading times from almos half an hour down to 3-5 minutes... THANK YOU!!! That should be part of the simulator itself, together with a way how to layer your scenery so you can decide the order and "exclude" part of scenery by layering it with another one.

thank you very much for your feedback, hopefully MS/Asobo will do some changes sooner or later to manage the community so that this tool will not really be needed anymore, until then i'm glad if you find it very useful.
