    MSFS Addons Linker 2020/2024 - Image 1

    Description

    Hello,

Since version 0.22.x AL now supports both MSFS2020 and MSFS 2024

    • to use it with MSFS2020 launch the MSFS_AddonsLinker.exe file
    • to use it with MSFS2024 launch the MSFS_AddonsLinker_2024.exe file

Note : new versions may introduce new features or important changes, please always check the changelog entries when installing a new version.

The first thing you'll probably do when trying this tool for the first time is move your currently installed addons outside of your 'real community folder' to put them in your new 'custom addon folder'. To avoid problems, please try first with a single addon only to make sure everything works fine for you.It would be sad if you move 200GB and then you notice it does not work for you. Files placed directly in the new folder should always work but, for some users (not the majority) the files moved might get encrypted if you have the MS-Store version so it's worth checking before moving too many files. Thank you.

Another little addons manager. Made to match my own needs and just sharing with the community. The main features are :

    • organize your addons freely in folders and subfolders with no limitations
    • quick activation/deactivation of addons without moving the files on the disk
    • presets management for global activations
    • map screen for addons localisation and activation
    • liveries browser
    • documentation browser
    • content.xml editor (msfs2024 only, will let you disable/enable base content 'streamedpackages' if needed)
    • airport icao scanning and duplicates finder
    • several other utilities to check addons (modellib / materiallib / ...)
    • ability to connect to simulator and visit addons with aicraft teleporting (via the map screen)
    • many more little options here and there ....

    Installation :
    - just extract all the files and drop them in a folder of your choice and run the EXE file

    basic usage :
    - create a folder where you will put your addons, add your addons in there instead of putting them in the community folder, you can create as many subfolder as you want to organize your files efficiently
    - launch the application, in the options screen set your 'addon folder' and your 'community folder'
    - just click on the checkbox to activate/deactivate addons
    - rest should be fairly easy to understand. There are several Youtube videos available that can help, please check them out.

big thanks to everyone who helped me with feedback, tests and ideas !

    Thank you

Great tool, one thing i noticed though is if the official sceneries are not in the streamed folder then it is not picked up and displayed on the scenery map, is there anyway to fix this?

How does this work with MSFS2024 and its community and community2024 folder? I only see an option for one community folder.
Currently everything goes in community, but I assume it's better to put native 2024 addons in community2024 right?

I think Addons Linker should automatically detect from the manifest.json if the addon is native 2024 and put it in community2024.

Hello, as far as i know, the community2024 folder is not really needed, it was added recently for people running both sims (2020 and 2024) and needing separate folders. It's also not possible to know if an addon is 2024 or 2020 just by reading the manifest file, the difference is buried deep inside the bgl file structure so an automatic detection is not possible. I have a test version where people can select manually if, for some reason, they want to link some addons to the the community2024 folder, but it currently has a little bug so for now it's not released, but i will hopefully release it soon, but yeah like i said it will not be automatic, you will just be able to specify the ones you want to end up in the 2024 folder.

Hello, someone made a little tool similar to AL to use with linux. Check maybe this thread if you want to contact him -> https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/693864-addons-linker-for-linux-made-one/

Recently I had to have windows 11 reinstalled on my PC. My fltsim works and looks great. I have recently installed Linker from past experiences and I have tried creating the folder structure on my C and D drive. Everytime I try to cut and paste I get a message that reads Yor organization does not allow you to place this file here. I have looked at file permissions, user permissions and anything else I can find on Google with no success. On Monday I am taking my PC back to the people that built it and see if they can come up with a solution. Your feedback is welcome. Thank you!

Hello, it's a known issue some people are having with the MS-Store version of the sim. For some reason the files get locked or something and you can't move them (probably nothing wrong with your PC because many people have the same issues as yours). It's probably due to some 'smart' microsoft engineering who thought it was a good idea to put sim files inside system protected folders, i really don't know, having the steam version, i was never confronted to that issue. Note that, to move your files, there is maybe a little workaroud that seem to work by zipping them inside another folder (important -> another folder). Not sure if it will help because maybe your issue is different, but read maybe this topic for some more info -> https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/601524-folders-locked-to-community/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-4548058

This is fantastic! Great solution for not being able to relocate FS2024 entirely from Steam. I keep the sim happy in its place, but can throw all my mods in a nice, organized folder on another drive. The quick ability to disable/enable will be great for major updates.

After several of using your app, I take the time to thank you.
So usefull for scenery (duplicate, compatibility test), aircraft, liveries.

One suggestion with a specific example:
To scan the ICAO (duplicate and map), It searching one by folder if I'm right. But sometime (FranceVFR Region product for example), There are several airfield in the same folder. You can find the ICAO in the BGL name or in the layout.
Would it be possible to expand the search of ICAO airfield to this use? It would be easier to find duplicate and to have a correct map of the scenery.

    Thanks

Thank you for the feedback, appreciated ! Yes it's a little limitation due to the way it's corrently programmed, the tool stops searching as soon as it finds an ICAO and so it will return only the first one. The 'DB' is also currently made to accept only one ICAO per addon. I need to check to see if it can be impoved because you are right it can be a bit problematic with some addons.

Hi mate. I have installed your app. It’s amazing. My main question is that when my planes/airports are updated by the developer like PMDG, Fenix etc, their installer apps tell me that my plane/airport is not installed. Is there a setting I’m missing? Many thanks

Hello, that's normal. If the vendor's installer installs its data in a specific folder and then you move it elsewhere, the vendor's updater will not see the files anymore and it will say the addon is not installed. Usually vendors install data in the real community folder, so they expect to see the files there, if you move them for AL, you need to link them before checking for updates so that the updater will see the files. Some vendors allow you to choose a custom path during installation, in that case you can install the addon in the folder monitored by AL and it should always be ok to update even if the addon is not linked.

Got it. I’ll give it a go. That makes sense. Many thanks.

Hello, a very small update but still recommended to all users. [NEW] Optional GSX folder scanning. If enabled (options screen), the column 'Gsx Profile' will show 'Yes' for addons for which you have a GSX profile installed. For this to work you need to use the AL ICAO scanner so that it will then match the ICAO found by AL with the GSX .ini file. Due to the way GSX works, there are some limitations and, to my knowledge, it's not possible to identify exactly if an INI file matches with a specific addon because this is done by GSX only when inside the sim. So with AL, you will just get the information if a GSX profile matches a specific ICAO and, if you have 2 addons for the same ICAO, both will display the value 'Yes'. If you have any idea on how this can be improved let me know, i don't have GSX so my knowledge is limited. As a reminder, you can save the column size/position by using the right click menu 'save columns order/size'. [NEW] New column and filter available on the map screen to show only enabled addons. [FIX] Fixed an issue with the modellib checker if used with native 2024 addons. [FIX] Fixed an issue with the flightplan loading on the map [FIX] Several other minor fixes [REMOVED] Removed the Bing maps because they have been discontinued by Microsoft. Unfortunately, its successor 'Azure map', which technically could be implemented fairly easily inside AL, is now a lot harder to access (credit card and phone number required). It will also probably start charging you if you go over the monthly free limit because they are not rich enough. So well, not really suited for AL :(.. Investigating for possible alternatives, for now you'll have to use the OpenStreetMap provider (or the very 'simple' map if you just need basic localisation). Sorry for that but out of my control. Thank you.
