Airport History:

Waterford Airport (EIWF) lies at Killowen, around 4 NM south-east of Waterford city, and is the only airport in Ireland’s South East. It was developed after local business leaders identified the need for improved regional connections; construction began in 1980 with a runway, taxiway and aircraft parking area. The airport received its operational licence in 1981, followed by approval for international flights in 1982.

Early scheduled services linked Waterford with Dublin, while Ryanair began a Waterford–London Gatwick service in 1985, one of the airline’s formative scheduled routes. Later operators connected the airport with London Luton, Birmingham, Manchester and other destinations. The airport’s runway and terminal facilities were progressively improved to support regional turboprop operations, general aviation and instrument flying.

Today:

Waterford Airport remains an IFR/VFR aerodrome, although it currently has no scheduled passenger services. Its activity includes general aviation, instrument and circuit training, and support for helicopter SAR, HEMS and training missions. The airport operates with ATC during published hours, with AFIS arrangements available as promulgated by NOTAM.

Navigation Details:

Runway 03/21: 1,433 m × 30 m (4,701 ft × 98 ft), asphalt. Runway 21 has a CAT I ILS/LOC, ident IWD, on 110.9 MHz, with DME; the ILS glidepath is 330.8 MHz. An NDB, WTD, operates on 368.0 kHz. Runway 03 has a simplified approach lighting system, while Runway 21 has CAT I approach lighting.

This scenery is created with high-quality modelling, PBR textures and close attention to detail. It includes custom ground imagery and markings matched to the real airport. Where appropriate, selected hangars feature interior detail. The scenery is optimised for efficient simulator performance and is regularly updated with content improvements and bug fixes. Airport-specific static aircraft may be included to give the airfield a distinctive, lived-in character; these do not occupy airliner parking stands, which remain available for default or add-on AI aircraft.
