    About this addon

In 2030 65% of the North Sea will be an industrial zone. Over 70% of the electricity for countries surrounding the North Sea will be generated by the massive offshore wind parks. The North Sea is the biggest work site on the planet, where ships costing billions of dollars place and remove wind turbines and platforms. Thousands of people work there in often atrocious conditions. What used to be an ‘empty’ sea is now filled with platforms, wind farms and other structures. Aviation plays a huge role in this developing industry. Over 90% of European helicopter traffic is dedicated to the offshore industry.

That is why we believe a scenery covering the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish sea makes sense. With the simulator fully supporting helicopters, a new territory to explore is available!

All the objects are placed in exactly the correct position using databases collected over many months. The ships are all located where they were on Jan 20, 2022, at 12:00 GMT. This means that every ship is in a ‘logical’ position. So, a cargo ship could be at an anchorage waiting for a port dock to become available, a small fishing vessel going to its fishing ground or a construction ship placing pylons for new wind turbines.

We strongly recommend reading the manual before buying this product, so you are aware of our design decisions and possible limitations. You will find the manual here: https://freeware.aerosoft.com/forum/downloads/Manual_North_Sea.pdf

Mainly because we believe realism still means a lot. You are simply not allowed to land your helicopter everywhere for very good reasons. Not only because the surface has to be able to support the weight, but also to prevent the chopper from wrecking itself. Also, making all objects crashable and landable would put a massive additional load on framerate.

I get that personally, what I do not find acceptable is one or two of the oil rig models used (how many times I don’t know, but the first one I loaded in on and of the next two I looked at two of them were this old looking thing) are ridiculously low quality, unsurprisingly absent from any of the screen shots shown, because it looks like something that would look old in FS2004, in 2022 it’s just not on. Please can you replace those models with either one of the higher quality ones included or a new high quality model. Frame rate in this case isn’t an issue, we are far out at see with nothing much else for the sim to render and if you can have multiple of the higher quality models near each other there’s no reason for these terrible looking things to exist in this sim in other areas.

May you add some sample screenshots of the platform(s) you find that bad, to the user gallery?

I don't think collision would put that amount of load on the CPU, because DCS and Aerofly FS does it perfectly, every surfaces are landable. Where I want to go with all this is chalenging landings, i'll rase to 3 1/2 star because the work is still consequente.

I think what WhiteHawk77 is talking about is the model you can see on the video below at 18:54 (not my video), feel like the wrong close up LOD is missing : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_Yxwn161uk
