    About this addon

    Aircraft concept background:

This jet is an homage to the F-20 Tigershark that never really got its proper place in aviation history, although it and the F-5 could be called the grandfather of perhaps the F-16 and the F/A-18, maybe even the JF-17.

Conceptual stealth fighters are becoming very visible as technology looks towards the future generations in fighter aviation. Concepts like 6th gen FCAS, NGAD, Tempest and J-36 spring to mind. They give a fleeting insight into what the next generation of air dominance fighters might look like. The ideas have captured smaller industries as well - Turkish TAI TFX or Swedish Flygsystem 20 seem to be serious proposals for native fighter concepts.

In 2019 a Lt. Col. in the Royal Danish Air Force pitched the idea of a fighter concept that could support Denmark's F-35’s in maintaining national borders and in other specialized roles. The design should also align with the ideals put forward by the fighter mafia: That a fighter should be small, nimble, easily maintainable and be inexpensive to keep flying. Which meant the design quickly adopted roots in the F-5 and F-20 - out of respect for those designs the designation F-20 was maintained. This concept is a thought experiment visualized in Microsoft Flight Simulator, the virtual aircraft draws heavily upon the F/A-18 in the sim, which is what the real concept would also have to do: Be based on existing parts and technology. That is why the engine is an F110 engine borrowed from the F-16’s that danish ground crews already know very well and why the glass cockpit / avionics look similar to 4th gen.

The aircraft design itself is based on the YF-23 ( you can tell by the pelican tail ) the F-16 ( small size, big engine ) the SR-71 ( the chines around the nose ) and the F/A-18 both in multi rudder functionality – and finally the F-35 thrust vectoring from the B model, nozzle design and the diverterless intakes. The aircraft was also designed to operate from austere airfields, the dorsal intake helps in this regard as well as making sure the engine is fed air no matter the orientation or air speed of the aircraft. The canards help with high maneuverability and grants the jet limited STOL capability.

    Known issues:

    • Cold start doesn't work, start the jet by pressing Shift+E
    • The jet will shut down the engine if you pull the throttle all the way back ( past the idle stop ) - that's realistic - but annoying ;)
    • It is necessary to take off using flaps and rotate around 170 / 180 knots and immediately suck up the landing gear and flaps or else they will jam in place ( realistic )
    • You cannot drop the landing gear above 170 knots as well ... so slow down on approach and drop it when below 170 - the aircraft can stay airborne down to around 110 knots..
    • Afterburner is sometimes visible, sometimes not ( could be an altitude thing ) :S
    • We're missing a working fuel gauge and a way to shut off the "Fuel low" warning, keep an eye on your fuel using the "Weight and Balance tab"
    • Rudder control inverts above slight input, this probably has to do with the pelican tail and emulated thrust vectoring.

    Roadmap:

    • 1. incoming model additions: Slick, CAS and SEAD version to be added ( no functionality, just different visibile loadouts )
    • 2. Liveries incoming, RCAF, Luftwaffe, USAF, USAF Aggressor +
    • 3. flight model fixes, quality of life improvements
    • 4. Cockpit model detailing
    • 5. Doable Community wishes

    Changelog

    v0.7about 1 year ago

Added USAF 65th Aggressor squadron livery to all model variations Added Taurus model variation with tweaked flight model. Taurus is a German-Swedish cruise missile that weighs a little above 3000 pounds ( non functional ). We added it to be able to simulate a low level, terrain masked deployment of said cruise missile. Take off rotation speed is increased to 190 knots when using this model variation and the controls feel heavier due to the added weight.

    v0.6about 1 year ago

Howdy pilots! New stuff incoming for the F-20A: The jet has been divided into 3 variations in this patch: CAP 01, CAP 02 and Slick this allows for individual flight model tweaking and the weight and thrust have already been tinkered with to prove it as a possibility. For instance the Slick model is now the lightest and has thrust limitations removed giving it an addition 2.000 pounds of thrust. low level Armée de l'Air livery ( this is an oldie, but we needed it pave the way for how we're gonna implement liveries from this point and on ) To summerize: CAP 01 model with ECM/ towed radar decoy wing tip pods and Aim-9X + the initial dual Meteor launchers and drop tanks. CAP 02 model with conformal tanks, single pylons with Meteor and AIM-9X Slick model with tweaked flight perfomance New / Old Armée de l'Air livery to pave the way for upcoming new liveries.

The plane still needs some updates to function properly, he has a few problems. For now, it remains a toy.

Integrated and operational flight testing has been underway in Florida (; She can become a handful to fly sometimes but it's still a whole lot of fun flying it around. I'm so excited for any improvements to this platform. The livery looks soo good and the details on the craft really make it feel like an experimental next gen fighter. Keep it up!!

Thanks man, loving that you took it out for flight testing! - I'll try to pump out an update with more liveries and model features at the end of May :)

I bought this, with the knowledge, that this plane is pure insanity!! And in my opinion, in the absolute BEST way! :D Does it have its "quirks" and issues? Sure. Is it perfect? Nah..... But neither am I, so.... But I can tell you, that Witus is a genuinely nice guy. :) So, don't be afraid to support his work. ;) Does it work in MSFS2024? Yes, so far it is working fine. But expect the usual "non-compatible issues" which may (or may not) appear. But a little "advice" for those of you, who choose to embrace insanity..... Disrespect her limits - and you will be PUNISHED!!! ;D But if you manage to do a lap in the Mach Loop, at low altitude and high speed, pushing the Hammerhead to the absolute limit, and SURVIVE..... Well... Then you'll absolutely deserve my utmost respect. ;D

Thank you for the kind words sir! :) I hope you're having a lot of fun with the purchase! it sounds like you're experiencing the right kind of insanity haha <3
