A quick edit of Leuchars, i have still more to add, I didnt put many static aircraft in as the base is only a stand by and is used by the army.

RAF Leuchars
The Royal Air Force station at Leuchars opened on 16 March 1920, although its association with the military can be traced back to 1911 when military balloons were operated at the site. During its history the site was used as a RNAS fleet fighter station and later as a RAF Coastal Command airfield. Throughout the Cold War and beyond, the station was home to fighter aircraft which policed northern UK airspace. The station also hosted an annual International Airshow.
Transfer to the Army
On 18 July 2011, Defence Secretary Liam Fox announced that RAF Leuchars would close as part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review 2010, with the station being transferred to British Army control in 2015 and the Typhoon aircraft based at Leuchars moving to RAF Lossiemouth in Moray.
In preparation for the closure, RAF Leuchars Mountain Rescue Team disbanded in November 2013 whilst No. 58 Squadron of the RAF Regiment and No. 6 Force Protection Wing disbanded on 10 May 2014. No. 6 Squadron was the first Typhoon unit to depart Leuchars, heading for its new home at Lossiemouth in June 2014. No. 1 Squadron followed on 8 September 2014, at which point responsibility for Quick Reaction Alert (North) was transferred from Leuchars to Lossiemouth.
Control of Leuchars was transferred to the British Army on 31 March 2015, when it was renamed Leuchars Station. The term 'station' was used as the size of the installation is smaller than a garrison but larger than a barracks and to reflect the range of army and RAF occupants. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards gradually relocated from Germany in the spring and summer of 2015 along with 2 Close Support Battalion of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and 110 Provost Company, Royal Military Police. The transition from RAF to Army control was considered to have gone smoothly by Fife Council in terms of its impact on the local community.
In February 2018, local Councillors suggested that the name of the installation be changed as it could be confused with Leuchars Railway Station.[9]
RAF Typhoon FGR4 aircraft and the Quick Reaction Alert (Interceptor) North capability operated from Leuchars between 10 August and the week commencing 16 October 2020 whilst the intersection of RAF Losisemouth's two runways was resurfaced.

Nice work. Great enhancement on te default. Unfortunately there are no PAPI lights as Asobo has omitted to include them in the default airport. The Navigraph charts show there should be 2 sets of PAPI lights on the left and right at RWs 26 and 08. It would be great of you could add PAPIs as per the charts.

ok cool i can add the PAPi lights in

Nice little piece of scenery. Some of the buildings on the far north/west apron are floating. Maybe something you could check?
Thx for providing this. Nice stop in FSEconomy 😉

Many many thanks for Leuchars, I have been living overlooking this airfield for the last 17 years,& before that came up on lots of holidays.Like many others I was very
disapointed when they took all the Squadrons away, but we still get missed approaches from the Typhoons,& who knows maybe one day they will be back.

Thank you for this - it makes a great difference to the area - I spent many a happy time there on RAF B.O.B. display days. Donation in the (electronic) post.
(I hope one day to upload a proper version of Portmoak Airfield (to the west beside Loch Leven) because the default is horrible (huge hangars and weird layout of active areas). I did make a detailed one for X-Plane 10.5 (I used to work there) and that was not easy but at least do-able with lots of work. So far the SDK for this sim has defeated me soon after setting up the horrendous file/folder structure and hasn't let me continue past that. Hoping they will fix that sometime (and not need the sort of witchcraft you seem to be able to use).
Cheers anyway - a great addon which ASOBO probably will never get round to themselves.

Hi Nick - great work Sir - thoroughly enjoying Leuchars! I wondered if I need to exclude the default airfield in some way to get rid some of the extraneous taxi lights?
nickb007 author
no i will have a look at them i can delete them in the build but i would then have to put new ones in

Great piece of nostalgia for me. In 1984, when I was in the U.S. Navy, we flew some Icelandic dignitaries from Keflavik to RAF Leuchars. Back then there was also an RAF Nimrod squadron there and they were our hosts. We stayed at the Castlemount B&B while we were there. It was a great trip. Thank you for this and I do hope you will continue to make updates for us.
