Richmond County Airport is a public airport located in and operated by Richmond County, North Carolina. It is located three miles south of Rockingham, and west of the city of Hamlet. 

The airport is used entirely for general aviation and hosts corporate flights, based private aircraft, aircraft maintenance, law enforcement and medevac flights, as well as occasional military operations. 

First built during World War II for military glider training, the airport was turned over to civilian use after the war. The airport was dedicated in 1946 as the "Rockingham-Hamlet Airport". The longest of the two turf runways was paved in 1967.

The county leased the airport to private operators until 2001 when it took over operations directly. The mid-2000s saw a series of major projects to overhaul the airport including the addition of a parallel taxiway, a brand new terminal, and all new hangars. The airport was renamed "Richmond County Airport" in July 2006, with the new terminal being dedicated a few months later.

There are two runways, 14/32 is 5001x100 asphalt with an RNAV approach to runway 32.
Runway 4/22 is a 3009x490 ft turf runway that is very well maintained.

I took my first flight from the turf runway at the age of 6 in a plane piloted by the longtime airport manager, Doyle Haigler. The airport is significant to me, so I spared absolutely no expense on detail. I took as little artistic liberty as I possibly could... what you see is what you get. 

Some features you'll find:

- The lighting system is completely custom so nothing shows up out of place or scale or overlapped. It includes the amber edge lights on the last 2,000 feet of the runway, a feature I've actually never seen in an MSFS scenery.

- A custom windsock to replace ASOBO's gaudy default one.

- A custom rotating beacon... also to replace ASOBO's gaudy default one.

- Custom taxiway signs

- The self-serve pump will prompt you to refuel if you pull up to it in the yellow hatched area, or if you choose one of the two parking spots nearby. 

- Tons of goodies to explore surrounding the airport. All is as you'd see it if visiting the airport in real life.
