A small farm strip in Oldbury-on-Severn in South Gloucestershire.
I often fly around this area and I always notice this farm strip that shows up in the imagery but isn't in the sim, so I decided to make it. It's basically a fictional rendition of the real thing as there ain't much out there about it apart from some aerial imagery and some glimpses from street veiw so take everything here with a grain of salt.
It has a downhill slope to the east and watch out for the fences! It's quite easy to hit a wing on them. I did have them narrower initially as they look quite narrow IRL as well but I decided to widen it up a fair bit after a number of accidents. Also watch out when turning around at the bottom as it's quite easy to smack your tail on the fences there too.
Speaking of accidents, I did find a couple of accident reports for this strip and one involved the power line that goes over the runway. I did try to implement that using Mamu's Powerlines mod but I couldn't get it working without your plane flipping into the air when going down the runway so I ditched that idea and just plopped some poles down instead to represent them.
This is my second local airfield, like with my previous one I had no idea what to do about the ICAO so just continued using the fictional strain from last time, so this is GBM02. I'm not too happy with how the hedges turned out so might muck about with them more. There's only one parking spot as well so maybe I should add another one or two? Anyway I hope you enjoy!
Libraries used are:
ESSENTIAL
Windy Things for the windsock.
Emerald Object Library for the hangar, hedges and general clutter.
Bush & Backcountry Library for the fences, gates and more clutter.
colinj's MSFS 2020 object library for the powerline poles and a tractor
OPTIONAL
BeeKay-Pack1 v5.0 for a ton of sheep.
Animated Human 3D Models Library for a couple of people, dogs and a cat.
Recommended Local Addons:
Severn Bridges by bamboodia as they're quite close!
Oldbury Nuclear Power Station by Flak. It's being decomissioned now but the buildings are all still there and it's just to the north of the airfield.
Filton Airfield and Almondsbury Helicopter Base by OverripePuma are just a short trip to the south.
Bristol and Gloucestershire Gliding Club and Cotswold Gliding Club by PhotosByKev are just a short strip to the north-east.
Avon Lane to the south of Bristol is worth a visit.
And why not fly to some other airfields I've developed nearby? Frogland Cross Airfield is just a short hop away and Woolaston Airstrip is just across the river. Check 'em out!
And here's a video of this and two other airfields I've made in the local region.
The power lines were of great concern. I used to keep very low on takeoff!
You’ve done a good job on this strip
