A local landmark, the Sunset Drive-In Theatre located in Aurora, Mo. opened in 1951 and is still open to patrons. Just north of Jerry Sumners Sr. Aurora Municipal Airport (2H2), it can be seen when approaching runway 18.

This is more of an experiment just to see what could be done using what's provided in the sdk, houses just don't cut it when it comes to DI screens. The screen is an oversized sign and the only one that really seemed usable though its not possible to really hide the frame. It's lit at night so it can be seen anytime you fly. I went ahead and added some water texture to several nearby ponds that weren't done in the sim and will probably add more to the DI and the area surrounding the airport.

I hope you like it better than the houses, if I get some positive feedback I might do a series of them. At one time drive-ins were a common sight and sometimes used for visual referance.

Open the zip file and drag the folder into your "Community" folder. No files are altered or overwritten so you simply just delete the folder if you wish to go back to the original generated scenery.
Thanks for downloading, please rate and comment!

1-31-21 I need some feedback on if anyone has night lighting as in picture #2. I was cleaning up my community folder and now I'm not seeing it. Please comment or pm me if you do or don't. Thanks

Nice addition to scenery. I remember early in my flying days when I was just starting out as a VFR pilot how I used to love to use drive-in screens as visual references along my route because of how well they stood out and could be seen so far away.

    Thank you for this.

Thanks glad you like it! I knew there had to be pilots out there who remember seeing and using them to get their bearings. Funny so many seemed to be built near airports or railroads. This drive-in seemed like a good place to start.

Used to live in Republic about 30 years ago and Springfield before then so I'm vaguely familiar with the area, at least how it was back then. The wife and I used to go to the Sunset. Can you believe Springfield had five drive-ins at one time? Seen movies at four of those five all long gone now. I found your scenery, Downloading it now. Oh and I have seen those white squirrels first one I saw I thought it was a cat running by till I saw some more lol.

So do we. We went to that theatre to watch Return of the Jedi and Mask a long time ago!

That was cool! I'm curious if you have any plans to enhance those areas of Southwest Missouri? I might add "billboard" for White Squirrels, but that is just an idea. Would love to work with you sometimes. Cheers, THartmann9374

Happy to hear you liked it!
I'm not really sure about doing anything else in Mo right now other than working on the drive-in's, thinking of doing more in other places. I'm actually in Georgia now and this is the only project I've done outside of Ga., besides the Route 66 series. I'm working on another DI here now. As far as creating anything, say in Blender, I haven't dealt into that and have only used what comes with the sdk, nothing custom. I'd be glad to help in any way I could, but as of now I'm pretty limited on skills. Send me a private message and let me know what you have in mind and we can discuss it more.
