About

CNAC #60 was a Douglas C-47-DL Skytrain, serial number 41-18556.

On November 17, 1942, CNAC #60 took off on a flight to Kunming Airfield in China piloted by Captain John J. Dean with co-pilot James S. Browne and a Chinese radio operator K. L. Yang with cargo flying on "Able Route" over "The Hump" Himalayan Mountains bound for Dinjan Airfield in India. Before taking off, the tower at Kunming Airfield notified the pilot that there was an incoming Japanese attack and that this aircraft should quickly take off to avoid the attack. Roughly an hour into the flight, southeast of Likiang this aircraft reported that it was icing and radioed another CNAC aircraft piloted by Robbie Robertson, requesting information about the conditions on his more southerly "Charlie Route". This was the last radio contact and was reported as missing. This was the first loss of American personnel aboard a CNAC aircraft.
