This is my first airport designed with the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 SDK. This replaced the default KUGN - Waukegan National Airport that is found in the simulator. This modification provides a more realistic depiction of KUGN. For those unfamiliar, KUGN is located about 20 miles north of Chicago. It is home to a variety of business jets, general aviation aircraft, and has on occasion seen Air Force One (B757). It’s location to affluent northern Chicago suburbs makes it a convenient departure point for private air travelers or aircraft owners.
Changes from the default version of KUGN include:
- More accurate hangar sizes, types, orientation, and location
- Corrected RWY 5/23 coloration
- Correct VASI, markings, and lighting
- Corrected RWY 14/32
- Correct VASI, markings, and lighting
- Added taxiway signs and ground marking
- Holdshort marking
- RWY marking
- Parking T
- Added taxiway lighting
- Added ramp/hangar lighting
- Added correct parking location
- Added various static aircraft to provide more realis
- Improved ground apron
- Cleaned up satellite imagery
Version 1.1 Changes
- Fixed taxiway lighting
- Corrected RWY5 approach lighting (removed) added REILs
- Added generic localizer antenna at end of RWY5
Version 1.2 Changes
- Fixed taxiway lighting again due to updated "Light Row" function
- Added black background to holdshort lines
- Removed excessive markings on Runway 05/32
- Reduced size of taxiway signs
Version 1.3 Changes
- Fixed/removed random trees around runways
Version 2.0 Changes
- Added custom taxiway lines
- Enhanced overall look of the airfield by re-doing the taxiways and aprons
- Updated runway marking to reflect how they are in real life
- Added black outlines to runway markings and numbers
- Added a layer of "wear" across the entire airfield
- Updated night lighting
- Added custom ILS for Runway 23
- Perimeter fencing
- Enhanced some taxiway paths
- Compatible with Google Maps mod
- Note: This was compiled in Sim Update 10 and therefore should be compatible with Sim Update 9 and 10 when it is released in August. If you run into issues, please let me know
Not changed from default:
- Approaches (aside from ILS RWY23)
- Frequencies

It's awesome being able to fly into my local airport with this scenery! I remember watching a Boeing 737-700 BBJ arrive at the airport years ago, and the flight crew was nice enough to give me a tour of the cockpit and cabin. Something I'll never forget!
Thank you very much for making this, and I'm looking forward to your future work and updates!

I came across the update to this great airport this morning. A month ago I was passing through northern Illinois and stopped at the Stick and Rudder club where I flew decades ago. The airport is not as pretty as it once was, many more jets and all that perimeter fencing...unatractive but it there and now in this scenery. Thank you, it's looking more and more like the real thing.

Thanks for the kind words! The update is an improvement over the original releases. Much better than the default. I wish I had the time to model custom buildings and add more custom textures but sadly I don't have the time or resources to accomplish this.

Any updates coming soon for KUGN? I would certainly like to see the FBO just as it is in real life along with the fuel tanks near the entrance, the F111 at the Veterans Memorial and the control tower modeled as it is in real life.

All sound like great additions but I don't have the time to learn how to model. If someone wants to they are more than welcome to message me and we can go about including it in future updates.

Would be awesome to see a more realistic ATCT; the one depicted in this add-on seems to be much shorter than the one actually at UGN...perhaps one modeled exactly like the one at Waukegan.

I would agree, unfortunately I don't have the time to learn Blender to make custom models. There is only a handful of choices for ATCT in the SDK.

Can you do a mock up of Chicago Executive (PWK) and Kenosha?
I was wondering on what exact applications you used on UGN? Great Work!
SDK perhaps but not sure?
