EGFD Llanbedr custom built

Continuing my efforts to improve the North West of England and North Wales, here is Llanbedr on the west coast of North Wales.

There is already a concept version : https://flightsim.to/file/6922/llanbedr-airport-egod-the-gateway-to-the-mach-loop by Photosbykev with his underground fast jet launch tunnel. Kev is quite happy for me to produce this custom built "real-life" version - just make sure you don't have both versions loaded at the same time.

I have hand crafted all of the important buildings - tower, flying school hangars, entrance, etc. I have obliterated the worst autogen buildings (especially the horrendous high street shops!) and just left one or two of the reasonable autogen approximations.

Lots of detail added, and I couldn't resist a couple of visiting Hawks from Valley.

Recompiled to ensure compatability with SU5 (and SU6)

v 1.2

Adjusted height to ensure compatability with SU7

v1.3

Sorted terraforming issues due to SU12 and recompiled.

v 1.4

A bit more tweaking to sort out "lumps and bumps". Still small dip where runways cross but seems OK now.

v 1.5

Amended ICAO to EGFD as per the sim.

Recompiled for SU13.

v 1.6

Finally (!) sorted out the lumps and bumps. Whole airfield flattened so not exactly true to life but runways and taxiways all seem to be OK.

Perhaps I shouldn't have to ask this, but should I remove original download before installing update.
I thought this used to be mentioned, but doesn't seem to be now.

Loving the addition however the runways seem sunken and taxiways are l a bit to hilly there seems to be two airport icons too in the map downloaded yourlatest 2 days ago.

Hi, love your rendition of EGOD, its my go to place for those essential blasts round the mach loop.

Is there any chance you could add a parking spot inside the open hanger ?

Very nice thank you. No taxi instructions from ATC but taxi ribbon took me the long way around after exiting at the end of runway 35, plenty of time to admire the scenery and details 😊

Fuel bowser would be nice as there are not many airfields in the area that provide the opportunity to top up.

Next stop RAF Valley with a quick drop-in at Caernarfon for tiffin on my three day round robin tour of UK airbases. I am amazed that this MSFS session has stayed up without CTD for so long 😊

At Last, my beloved Llanbedr. I fly from here all the time as I grew up in Llanfair and my father was the BAE rep for Llanbedr based Jindiviks for most of his working life. Only thing missing for us oldies would be the static display of the Jindi that used to be by the gatehouse....see Google for photos.

Once again great job on the old V-Bomber substation.

Another great addon, however I've so far only tried this in VR and from a distance you can see quite large ground spikes. Does anyone else see these?

A beautiful airfield near the "gateway to the Mach loop" love the Skell level of detail, especially the visiting Hawks.

It's always safest to remove earlier versions - I've had so much trouble with this mod that I wouldn't want any old rogue file causing problems !

Yeii, Back to FLAT! Well done and don't knock yourself it is pretty flat in real life all the way up to the sand dunes. So it looks like I remember it and check it out on Google Earth you'll see just how flat it is. They didn't used to mow the grass but let the local farmer graze his sheep on the airfield when no flying! Only thing left I could possibly ask for is if you could restore your extra parking slots on the apron and peri track surfaces? But whatever, it is a great job ! Thanks. 🙂👍🙌

It's a pain in the backside, isn't it? I'll have another go at solving the problems - maybe the latest updates will enable me to do something. If not, I'll see if Superspud can solve it.

Please, Please, Please, try to fix the main runway, my new Vulcan needs it all! Also restore the parking spots and Peri Track surfaces you had on the last version of EGOD. This is my main Airfield of operations. I do wish I knew how to help but it is all beyond me and what you achieved was spectacular up until Asobo ruined it!!!

Since you aligned with the Asobo version of EGFD all the runways have sunk!
I'm wondering if the terrain fixes you did last time around have come undone or are no longer needed since the EGFD/EGOD merge?
I must find a way of getting Asobo to correct the name from Llanbehr to Llanbedr its really annoying and X-Plane is the same!

The sinking ground has been an ongoing problem for ages. I'd hoped I'd solved it but I'll have another tinker to see if it can be fixed.

Hi Skelly!
Just a cheeky request if you ever get the time...... Any chance you could perchance replace the GA aircraft with a couple of Meteors, A F4 Phantom and a Canberra all of which flew from RAE Llanbedr back in the day? They also had a Sea Vixen but don't know if a model of that exists. Would complete the immersion as they say 😉

Yes - still not right is it ? Will keep tweaking when I get time but may need to call in the big guns (Superspud!) to help me out.

Awesome to see this added, I drive past here 11 times a week for work, and I regularly fly from here in the game, so thanks!

Morning dude, I just landed there and the runways look lower. 05/23 causes quite a dip where it crosses 17/35. It's not as severe as this mornings Spitfire nose dive off a cliff while taxying though. I guess they have changed the elevation data again..

A beautiful Airport though, your Bellman hangars look like Bellmans.

I almost forgot, there's a second ICAO over the airfield, it looks like they have changed it in the game. from Giggle;

"Llanbedr Airport (ICAO: EGFD) (Welsh: Maes Awyr Llanbedr), formerly RAE Llanbedr (ICAO: EGOD)"

Oops! Unfortunately SU12 has really messed up all the geometry of this lovely airfield. Now all the elevations are haywire with great big hills on various parts and a huge hill in the middle of the main 17/35 runway. Please fix my favourite home base if you get the time. 😊 This in VR

I've sorted the problem. Couple more tests then I'll upload later today.

Hi Skell, I'm always here at home where I grew up. Boy she used to be a busy field and a V-Bomber 'sub' Station which meant regular visits from the Vulcans which used to rattle the windows in the grammar school 3 miles away in Harlech! Any chance you could put some parking spots back on the Apron outside the hangars as very rarely did A/C park where the spots are now.
