The story behind Billund Air Center
Back in the eighties, Jørn worked as an instructor at a flight school. Later he came to fly taxi and ambulance planes. Jørn dreamed of keeping the opportunity to direct, and therefore he chose in 1990, together with Pia, to start the Billund Air Center. It didn't take long, however, before there was so much to do that Jørn was full-time employed, and quit the other job. It has always been important to Jørn and Pia not to invest in more than they could afford, so they gradually built up the school as money became available.
From one to 30 employees
At first we only had three planes and rented some premises a little further down the road, but the school soon grew bigger and in 1999 we built the hangar and the office facilities we use today. Today we have five aircraft, two helicopters and two simulators, and we employ approximately 30 employees.
Generational change at Billund Air Center
On 1 January 2022, Dennis Baumann and Hanne Mols joined the ownership circle of Billund Air Center together with Jørn Askholm. Both have been employed at Billund Air Center for many years, and know the company in detail, as well as the quality and orderliness that has always characterized Billund Air Center.
We like the teaching profession
Some of our employees are freelancers, while others are here full time, but what we all have in common is that we like the directing profession. When we hire new directors, it's always people who really want to direct. They should not just wish for a few extra hours – they should be passionate about learning from them and taking care of our students at the different levels they come with.
Space for diversity
The students are often very different, some learn very quickly, while others are a bit nervous and may lack a little self-confidence. Our experienced instructors know how to tackle the differences and adapt the teaching to the individual students. This means that we have room for everyone who really wants to learn to fly.
