Note: This repaint has NO POLITICAL MOTIVATION behind it. It is a HISTORIC livery recreated, nothing more.
Known issues:
- No registration marks on the wings - wing textures are mirrored, there is no easy fix
- Missing anchor marks on vert stab
- Red hatch outline on the nose not accurate - should be grey rectangle instead
Description:
For iniBuilds Antonov An-225
Main file is 8K upscaled
The Antonov An-225 as seen in 1988 and 1989. I fully respect and support Asobo and iniBuilds' decision to not include this livery in their product. I found it unfortunate however, all of the Mriya's paint schemes worn during her life time were recreated except for one - her factory livery. 'Birthday suit' if you will. Small differences between the two versions with the name signature text, as well as nose bort numbers.
Born out of the Ukrainian SSR, originally envisionsed to carry parts of the Energia-Buran space programme from the industrial, engineering and scientific centres in the west of the Soviet Union to the steppes of the Kazakh SSR, the An-225 was a very suitable replacement for the VM-T Atlant, which could not carry the Buran shuttle. The Buran programme was cancelled however, and the Mriya was left without a job, and was sent to parade around airshows as the largest aircraft in the world at the time. This livery recreates her as seen in her 1988 unveilling, and 1989 in Paris and Farnborough airshows.
Installation:

Very Nice. Now if they (dev. team) could come up w/ the Buran shuttle as an add on (I suppose)& change the plane/flight model (the way that she would handle) that would be awesome add IMO!!!!! Just envision that baby rolling down the runway.....

As much as I would like that, I seriously doubt that would happen as they opted to not include this Soviet livery in the base product, I can't imagine they'd be keen on adding a Soviet shuttle on top. I do hope someone in the community can do it though.

Though there is no easy fix yet for some of the issues, the question is will they be eventually fixed? Great Livery btw!

Extra state flags i shall try and seems possible. Wing registration I'm not so sure. I need to push out a couple other projects out before I explore this paint again though.

Looks much better then the yellow-blue one...

There's a default livery as well as seen in 2001 with the same red line and a blue line livery 2006.

I only saw the AN-225 once in my lifetime, and it was in this colour scheme. So many thanks for not being afraid of history! Best wishes to Antonov on the rebuild of this beautiful bird.

Is it possible to make a version of the skin at half the resolution? I think 1.4GB for two skins are quite a lot and they really don't have a lot of detail as most of the texture looks simply upscaled. I find it obvious that the lack of detail in the half sized texture (and when I say lack of detail I really mean the information present on the texture that shows the detail is not there... blurred pixels etc) was upscaled doubled in resolution and the missing info/dat in the texture just got bigger. On Top having now also huge footprint on disk.
I don't want my criticism to be taken as bad one. I think this direction of brute force upscaling is not the best one. MFS supports decal technology which should provide possibility to have a rather simple background texture smaller in dimensions and more towards the PBR aspects of the materials and then on top of it several decal textures that contain just the decals with proper alpha channels and in big resolution can be used to enrich the texture.
Maybe the 225 doesn't have this tech done properly by inibuilds but... the results are not impressive by just upscaling just for some swashes of decals.
imho.

You're absolutely correct and valid. The original textures were in 4K and I have upscaled it to 8K for crisper lines. I shall repack a smaller 4K version later today.
My painting process is still archaic from my FSX days. I have a couple more projects in the works at the moment, when I finish them I'll do my best to learn to paint using the decal method. It would help overcome mirroring issues I have encountered as well.
I must say though even if the decal method is more size friendly, I find that it's only suitable for liveries of freshly painted aircraft. The decals layer on top of the albedo's baked in AO and weathering, I feel like it'd look odd with some parts of the aircraft weathered and some parts not, whereas using the albedo I can use blending methods to preserve them. In any case I will try out using decals when I can.

Very detailed Livery, I feel like this is an important part of the planes' history, since it was part of the Soviet Space program. History is history.

I assume this is for the payware AN-225 correct? I hope it is 😊

Yes it is. I just realised i made no explicit mention of it in title or description. I shall fix that, thank you.
