Transall C-160NG
In 1982, the Indonesian government purchased six Transall C-160NG (Nouvelle Generation/New Generation) second-generation production Transall C-160 aircraft for use in the transmigration programme by the Indonesian government to move landless people from densely populated areas of Indonesia to less populous areas of the country with Pelita Air Service as the operator.
Pelita Air Service was previously called Pertamina Air Service, which was the air transportation services division of Pertamina (an Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation) to support employee mobility. It was later officially separated into a separate company with the name PT. Pelita Air Service, which also provides air transportation services for the oil and gas industry in Indonesia.
Apart from the transmigration programme, it is also used by the UN for humanitarian programmes.
