21D - Lake Elmo Airport
Lake Elmo airport is a General Aviation airport on the eastern side of the Twin Cities metro area in the city of Lake Elmo, MN. It consists of two runways (14-32 and 4-22). This mod is to add generic hangars to the airport as it also suffered from flattened buildings (outside of three larger hangars). I also updated the airport lighting to match what I could find for the airport and the PAPI was added to runway 32. A few parking locations were added as well.
Note: in it's current form, this airport is pretty basic in it's amenities. It is undergoing a facelift however, and phase 2 is in progress for 2021. Phase 3 is scheduled to finish in 2022 when a new (extended) runway 14-32 is completed shifted from the current location. I plan to come back and update this airport upon completion of the project. I included an image of the construction plan to give an idea of what is coming for this airport at a later date.
Note 2: The construction project nearly wrapped up in 2023 but the sim doesn't yet have the new images. I'm guessing they'll come in a future world update. The new runway position is estimated based on georeferenced charts, so when the underlying map is updated, then I can fine tune the location of the new paved items. Thanks to user astralbody for getting pictures of the new layout which made this all possible!

I was wondering if you were going to update 21D? The airp[ort looks different now with the runways complete. I would love to have an updated version since I do flight training out of Lake Elmo. 😊 Thanks for all the airports you fix in our neck of the woods!

Thank You!! Live in Bayport so 21D is my home airport for flightsim every winter. Came over to MSFS2020 this winter from P3D and was so glad to find this done. Countless hours updating the P3D version, and this is so much better than I was ever able to achieve there. I really love flying out of this version. Are you still planning to do the post-construction update? I see that the road just to the south of the airport was already re-routed in the scenery from Bing. If you are going to update it, would you consider re-sizing the parking to at least a radius of 6? It looks like they are all 5 now, and the Asobo 172's (at a minimum) look like they have a radius of 6, so I think that's why it's been hard so far to get AI flightplan traffic to land here, albeit I'm still learning FS2020 scenery. I haven't looked at the parking radius requirements of any default twin engine yet like the Baron, etc. I know in P3D reducing wingspan to get planes to fit a spot could have a flight impact, but don't know if that's the case in FS2020 or not. Anyway, this is a great rendition of 21D, so thanks again!

Hi! - Thanks for the comments! Good to hear from another local sim pilot. I did start work this fall on an update with the new runway. I haven't touched it in a month though since my schedule has been very full then I got sick. An update is planned though, January may be good for free time as there will be less activities on the family schedule which will hopefully allow for me to get this done. I will take a look at the parking spot sizes. It should be easy enough to change. Have a Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much, yet again! I did an early evening flight tonight in MSFS, flying the recently-released A1R Ryan ST-A from my local airport, Fleming Field, out to Lake Elmo and did a few circuits/landings. I typically fly around this area in MSFS more than anywhere else, but up until now I had avoided 21D in MSFS due to the missing hangars and other problems. It is absolutely wonderful to now fly in/out of the Lake Elmo Airport and see it fully populated and to have the other issues fixed as well. The same goes for what you have done for the Crystal, Anoka, Osceola, Red Wing, Forest Lake, Wipline and other MN airports as well. It is truly, truly very much appreciated!

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying flying the area. Fleming field is a great place as well, I've visited a couple times; especially the CAF hangar. It would be amazing if someone did a good B-25 we could fly out of SGS. I sat with my son one evening on the street on the approach end of 16 watching planes in the pattern come over the houses lined up on final. Then Miss Mitchell did the same which was a great surprise. Can't beat the sound of radials!

Thanks for that! Glad people are enjoying the Twin Cities airports. So many good places to fly in Minnesota. If I had a PPL, I'd like to try the Fly Minnesota passport program to see the other airports MN has to offer. I was doing that in FSX which is what got me into making scenery in the first place as outstate MN airports are a mess in FSX. That was helpful to understand a few things which assisted in understanding the SDK (to an extent) in FS2020. I'll check out your podcasts as I wasn't aware of them. Very nice of you to acknowledge my work!

Nice work. I have relatives that go fishing up there -- or try anyway, they never have much luck, but they love it. I'll give you five stars not only for the great work but for actually adding the state to the title. Thanks for that.

Thanks! Hopefully the relatives catch a fish every once in awhile. It's all about the experience vs. how many fish you catch. At least that's what I tell myself when I fish and catch nothing!
